Career politicians breed corruption and lies. Vote them out or they and their cronies either die in or retire from public office.

Option one.....you win
Option two.....you lose

And it is about to get even more liberal.

Meaning what? You're giving up? Voting for more Dems? I mean...What does that even mean?

Kind of a dumb thing to say, don't you think "politicalJunkie?"

The Senate Democratic Caucus has gotten a lot more liberal in recent years. And it is about to get even more liberal.

Re: Rikki Tikki Tacky?

I don't know where you get off with these things about David Weinstein. For one his ethics have never been questioned. He files his campaign reports on time and complies with all reporting laws. He serves as his own campaign treasurer so its not like things are being done he doesn't know about. All of that is well documented on the State Board of Elections website. As far as dealings with lobbyists and the like go I've never heard of anything negative like the stuff with Jim Black or Michael Decker. I'm not so naive to think that he might not do some vote trading with other members to get some of his bills through, but thats not exactly compromising his values. If he votes yes on somebody elses local bill so they will vote on his thats not taking money under the table. He certainly makes sure his votes are in the best interest of the citizens of Robeson and Hoke counties. He would rather work for the needed votes than go against the best interests of his constituents or ignore his own values.

As far as his career before the Senate, David Weinstein did a pretty good job of keeping his family business afloat for nearly thirty years from 1960 to 1989 when he finally closed the shop down to move on to public service as Mayor of Lumberton for 4 years. Its not like you see many small family clothing shops open anywhere these days with the influx of department stores. Time were changing and he saw he could better serve his community in public office anyway. His brother had to close his Wilmington store earlier this year by the way.

Anyway get off his back. He seems to be doing a good job doing things for the area like sponsoring bills to fund UNCP and helping to bring in grant money from the Golden Leaf Foundation and NC Rural Center. He did a good job for several terms and if he wants to stick around for more the district would be lucky to have him. If Perdue picks him for the ABC job then good for him.

I'm glad I've finally found at least one other person who shares my opinion of Sen. Weinstein. Didn't know about business/family background but it does not surprise me. I've been following the Senate this year and I've yet to see any good this guy is doing for democrats or his district.

Doesn't look like he will be going anywhere anytime soon though.

I thought Joyner resigned back in October over a conflict of interest he had in Charlotte??? Actually I am pretty sure he did. Someone correct me if I am wrong. If Purdue is worried about more controversy and newspaper articles coming out of the ABC office she might want to stay away from this guy.

Just what we need. Perdue appointing another politically connected Democrat to a major board in North Carolina. Heck even Obama is appointing some Republicans to important posts in his administration.

You can't even begin to make this sort of stuff up.

One of Basnight's boys gets to sit on a committee to reform ethics.

Expect a lot of progress out of this group of Keystone Kops.

the n&o needs to stop taking dictation for the raleigh political class and start digging into some of these politicians.

This guy is a bigger disaster than the one Lady Bev just fired. weinstein told the fayeteville observer that he was quitting the senate because of this"ethics" stuff and "people reporting on everything you're doing." Sounds perfect for running a tax-payer funded state agency, huh?

his supporters tout him as an accomplished businessman. he inherited a fortune and a successful clothing store from his dad. in less than 10 yrs, he pretty much blew the fortune and ran the clothing store straight into bankruptcy. Sounds like a perfect guy to have running a state agency.

he needs a steady govt paycheck. he has been unable to go out and make an honest profitable living in the private sector.

there is an ongoing state and federal criminal probe into political corruption in weinstein's home county of robeson. robeson county and its politics are comparable only to those in chicago. it's well known as a dirty, dirty place. murder, drug trafficking, and more murder.

Most of the sheriff's office, including the most recent former sheriff ( a close weinstein friend & supporter), has been jailed. word is that several politicians there, some more of weinstein's buddies, will be next. will any of that touch the good senator? can lady bev afford another scandal in the abc?

weinstein cant do anything more for lady bev. she won handily w/o robeson -- the most reliably dem county in nc. weinstein and his associations will only cause trouble for lady bev and her team as they try to clean up raleigh. lady bev does not need this guy and his baggage.

weinstein wants a job in raleigh b/c his new old lady does not want to move to lumberton. can't blame her ...
should we the taxpayers foot the bill for weinstein because he wants to live in raleigh and cannot make money in the private sector?

re: fox, the guy who got fired. why is the n&o just now reporting on a november email? where has that email been for six months? why go public with it right now? smells like the n&o got used as part of a dirty political trick.

inquiring minds want to know ...

"It's not as fun as it used to be, all that — the ethics, and the people report anything you do,"

Yes, sounds like he would make an excellent appointee!

Chairmen of the Board called and said Sen Weinstein is "wasting time" and should be "gone fishing".

Seriously? The GA needs a priority check. Why waste time on something that affects so few people when our state is so troubled???

PLEASE get to work all you folks on Jones St. (on something that matters)

Edit:
And one more thing that makes this law ridiculous...I'd bet that 99.99% of the people buying the tickets for these groups know that the original members aren't around anymore. All this does is destroy history and nostalgia.

Up next, GA to consider law to place warning label on fried chicken and BBQ.

Ok, back to work. This really got me fired up didn't it??
