Re: Marshall pollster: Yes she can!

No, she can't. Although Marshall is well-accepted in her current office, she trails Burr in the polls. Since Marshall is such a well-known public official, it is unlikely that she can improve on her numbers even with a vigorous campaign. On the other hand, Cal Cunningham is scarcely known in the state, and he can skyrocket in the polls after he launches a vigorous campaign. The DSCC better start courting Cunningham very seriously if they want to defeat Burr next November.

Re: Wicker is out

Could this be a divine plan? If no one will accept then who is left? Could this be the time for John to make his comeback?

I think he would be a sure thing. John is for the poor people. At the rate Obama is going we will all be poor by the time the election rolls around. Obama's lack of economic policies means that the only ones who will not be poor will be those on government bailouts. If we are all poor then John gets all the votes. John will fight for the poor! We need someone fightin' for us!

The failure of any Democrats to step up and run against Burr is obviously some type parable or omen or low pressure system. The poor will always be among us! John is the only one who cares for the poor! Let's send Burr out on Sarah's bus! End illegal parking! Stand up for the poor!

The depth chart is looking bleak.

The first string is out, the second string is out, the third string is out. The taxi squad left in a Yellow Cab. As Brad Pitt, playing Achilles, said: "Is there no one else?"

There's always Bobby Boucher.

Re: Dome memo: Ethics and fence-sitting

"Hard work, perseverance and positive attitude will be rewarded. And if that doesn't work, a nice crisp $20 couldn't hurt."

At least the twenty bucks is reasonable. Seems like state govenment payoffs cost a little more than that. I don't mind the payoffs but couldn't we regulate them. If the state would follow the suggestions of these kids then the price of payoffs would come down! We are in a recession for heaven's sake! Consult these children for an appropriate amount. Show some mercy during these tough economic times.

P.S. You know of course that "hard work, perseverance and positive attitude" does not always work in politics and government. Keep a roll of those crisp $20 handy just in case.

Let the DSCC crawl for a bit

After trying to woo Rep. Etheridge for a race most folks knew he would never make, I think it'll be amusing to watch them scramble to get back state Sen. Cunningham. Let them know how it feels...

Re: GOP gloats over Cunningham decision

I'm a Republican looking to go unaffiliated because of this very thing!
Forget the gloating and sniping. We elect you to get the job done and the parties are made up of cluesless hacks looking for a fight. It's time to earn our votes - As an unaffiliated voter in NC you can choose which party you want to vote for in the May 2010 primaries. Don't give them the satisfaction of assuming just because there are this many Dems or RepS I can depend on your vote. MAKE THEM WORK FOR YOUR VOTE. REGISTER AS UNAFFILIATED!

Time for new faces in the old offices.

Malleus, are you kidding? Marshall just announced that she's EXPLORING a race a few weeks ago, and she's done little but raise money and send out some blast e-mails to sign petitions and get supporter feedback on the issues. She hasn't hardly hired any staff other than a few consultants. That's hardly campaigning "strenuously." And the idea that she's already 10 points behind Burr, who's way under 50%, should be good news, not bad.

If you're going to malign democracy in action, at least learn to spell. And if you're going to defend Do-Nothing Burr, you might want to point something he's actually done besides obstruct what most Americans want.

For a person who hates government, you sure spend an awful lot of time running for office.

Supporting anyone but Burr means one thing. That you support the filibuster proof majority in the US Senate and it's radical socialist policies.

Wow, the Democrat primary is solidly underway with the comment: "Marshall may have bitten off more than she can actually chew. She should reconsider her candidacy."

I think calling Marshall a high-profile member of the Council of State is stretching it. If by high-profile you mean that she did not have to sue the state just to perform her job function, then yes. If you mean she has any influence or has done anything in the past decade, then no. She is a competent politician who has a donor network. She's the best the Democrats have right now.
