"At least she only has one way to go - up!"

This is a true statement if applied to the "service revenue base" that Bev discovered during the budget debate.

In recent interviews, Bev has been clear that new taxes on services are necessary to maintain "core" state programs.

Absent economic growth, taxes will most assuredly have to "go up" again in the not too distant future.

The problem here is that from the start of her administration Ms Perdue has studiously avoided taking responsibility for any action deemed damaging to her political base.

By trying so hard to avoid creating the perception that she is responsible for higher taxes and reduced spending on cherished left-wing programs, while tacitly supporting such actions, Perdue has destroyed her credibility.

Carter Wrenn is sadly right on the mark on this one.

Is it too late to get Easley back? At least he didn't keep contradicting himself. Of course he never said anything but that is better than saying something different each time you open your mouth.

This is getting to be a remake of "Legally Blond" but without the happy ending.

Basnight and Rand put "Baby Dumpling" in the mansion .... and she stays there at their say-so.

If they decide she's more trouble than she's worth, she'll be evicted figuratively if not literally.

Threatening to veto the budget bill if they didn't increase taxes by $200 million is going to be a tough one to live down. The only way she wriggles free is if the state economy is so disastrous over the next couple of years, that her actions pale in comparison.

Brilliantly stated, Carter Wrenn. The flip flops that she had during the campaign were just a precursor of her actions as Governor.

Bev is more interested in letting everyone know she is the big boss than anything else. Maybe she should spend less time threatening to fire every state employee that makes a mistake and take a look at herself. She's made quite a few mistakes since taking office, starting with the Bill Harrison fiasco. Is it too much to ask of our elected officials to actually follow the state constitution?

Re: Not even John Edwards

As hard as it is to say it -- I once had high hopes for John Edwards -- Edwards wins the Sanford matchup in a photo finish. Both of them kanoodled their wives, both spent time and money denying it. One actually begged his wife for permission to continue kanoodling, and for her to visit the kanoodlee face-to-face. Both of them had/have jobs that are absolutely without authority or power. Ah, but only one did his Texas sidestep while his wife is dying, then offered a married staff member with three kids to publicly take paternity of a child, and paid him to do so.

Nah. John Edwards win this one. On the other hand, Sanford still has time.
