Re: Dole praises Helms on Senate floor

Sorry Missa Libbie, but I'm from up north. There is no other state in the country whose elected Senatorial representive could really get all mushy over the much too belated end of a bigoted, hypocritical, socially destructive minion of nothingness, like Senator Helms. I'm really hoping that NC is forced to grow up really fast from this latest Repuglican recession and after Obama takes office in 2009. So then I can start enjoying my retirement here and feel like I'm living in a state that's really entered the twenty first century and actually joined the community of humanity.

A valid point, but I would still count coming in second as being a spoiler. The dynamics of a two-person versus a three-person race are much different.

The rest are good examples, but the Bull Moose campaign did not earn enough votes to affect the race between the Republican and the Democrat.
As noted, Wilson received 59.2 percent of the vote. Even if Taft was the only other candidate in that race, he'd still have lost with a maximum 40.8 percent of the vote.

I suppose Teddy spoiled Taft's chance to come in second.

Bob Barr will be the only third party candidate to have the opportunity in NC to be a spoiler!

Unfortunately, both Nader/Gonzalez and the Green Party has been blocked from our ballot!

I find this to be offensive to many people in this state as well as unconstitutional!

It is a sad day in the United States of America when voters are disenfranchised as they have been this year!

This is not fair and true representation of "we the people", nor is it true Democracy!

Good review though I find it a bit harsh on Helm's views on race and homosexuality. Helms was dead right that the Civil Rights Bill was the "most dangerous piece of legislation" as it usurped the constitutional perogatives of the states per the 10th Amendment. Am glad to see a thorough study has been done on his legacy and hope it will be just the first of many more.

Edwards has moved too far left along the political spectrum to win a statewide election in NC.

He could run then--and may well win if he did. But I think he may well run for another office in the meantime--maybe senator, again, or governor. Quite frankly, he'd be the strongest challenger to Liddy Dole by far, and though he likely wouldn't do it this year, he'd be a far better governor than would either Richard Moore, Bev. Perdue, or Pat McCrory.

Any way you slice it, his political career is far from over. He's got a lot to say, and to offer. If he didn't, why would both Hillary and Obama be modifying their stump speeches to reflect the things he has advocated?

Winston strikes again.

Smith went attack dog on everyone including the moderator David Crabtree.

Anyone have a breakdown on speaking time for each candidate?

Ol' Fred has always been an angry old man, even when he was young, I'm told. He didn't become one tonight, he just let his guard down and "stern father" leaked out. Just what we need.

Not.

What consultant told Fred that his best chance in this race was to become the angry old man? He spun out of control tonight.

why has this books information not hit the headlines? not only have the polititions been quiet but not even the pow organizations have responded to this book. ive read it and was amazed nobody has come forward with any of this information. if these facts are credible the public should be demanding answers imediately. i hope this is being taken seriously and action is in the works to uncover all hidden documents that have been denied public knowledge. tell me this book is not being ignored. tom baxter
