So we can expect a jobs announcement by the end of the week? The 69,000 North Carolinians out of work since Governor Perdue took office are waiting.

I would rather see the money go to clean up the end product of all that pork, the euphemistically named "hog lagoon". While the stench makes it obvious that it is polluting the air, it is also an environmental disaster for our precious rivers, streams and groundwater.

Indeed I think the classic concept of "the rich get richer, the poor get poorer" here.

I personally do not see why the taxpayer should have to foot the bill for this either, and whether or not this helps prevent the reoccuranced of the swine flu epidemic remains to be seen.

If they had the sense of a brass horn Billy Goat. they would not need money to buy pork for the disadvantaged. they are sitting in the seat of authority. all they have to do is change global trade to a point where we can not buy any more of other countries products, than they buy from us.
that way we americans can invest in factories, and hire americans, and then we won't need to help so many.under this situation today where capitolism has ignored every thing but profits. they are forcing this country into communism, or socialism,at that point. capitolism will cease to exist. I can't understand why someone else does not realize that.

What help did those congressmen offer citizens who had industrial pig factory farms move into their neighborhoods destroying their quality of life. Forcing people to breathe the toxic gases, have manure sprayed in the air to mist all over them, etc.

Who forced the hog industry to oversaturate the market, to oversaturate southeastern NC???

Where were those congressmen then? Stuffing their pockets with campaign donations from the industry?

The taxpayers now have to foot the bill for a greedy industry.

Well, of course she'll go in late October...that's the best Fall weather in China and Japan. Just bracing and beautiful! And.....she'll be back home for Thanksgiving vacation and then in mere weeks the Xmas and New Years Holidays will be upon us.

Shucks, it don't get no better than this.....why work?

Mrs. Dole must have been her secret mentor.

Folks, sure, business drummed up with the Chinese and Japanese provides some blue collar jobs here to push products mainly made overseas and the profits from the sales go right back overseas.

$82K of State funds and we are laying off teachers. Way to go. Another shopping boondoggle. I thought she was a gov not a Senator. I have seen plenty of these shopping trips when I worked at U.S. Embassies. What a waste of money and government time. I would like to see how much revenue generation she obtains from this trip.

$82,000 = two full-time teachers for one year
$164,000 = four full-time teachers for one year

Asian trip = "building and sustaining relationships"

Next election = new governor - priceless!

1) I'd love to see a list of the business leaders and economic developers going on the trip and compare it to Perdue's campaign donations. Bet you'd see some of the same names.

2) If over half of the money is coming from non-state funds (most likely tax money, just federal)that would mean that the total cost of the trip is at a minimum $164,000. Would like to see what that breaks down per person.
