I'm SO glad a liberal Mayor lawyer that sucks up Fed funds like a syphon is FINALLY putting that Conservative Shuler's feet to the fire.

After all, the so-called Democrat Shuler won by beating a Bush lackey pork monster, right Paul Terrell?

I, like you, am so sick of reading how Heath supports the Republican agenda this, Heath doesn't support the President's agenda that, Heath doesn't support what most Americans want or what poor Appalachia needs. Jebus. It's time to elect a giant tax and spend liberal in the mountains, just like Charles Taylor was. Thanks trial lawyer Newman for being that change, but with an R by his name, just like Bush and Charles Taylor.

Morons.

Re: Advocate takes temperatures on climate

Wind power is absolutely not a joke, Paul. It is a sustainable domestic source of energy production that is almost cost-efficient now. It will play a vital role as an energy source in the near future. Parts of NC have good wind, and we should prepare ourselves to take advantage of this fact.

Being in favor of nuclear power doesn't really have anything to do with being against wind power. You don't have to call wind power "a big joke" in order to present a strong case for nuclear power. In fact, doing so makes you sound ignorant and detracts from the point you're trying to convey.

Wind an nuclear energy are both crucial for our future energy needs.

Wind power is a big joke in that it will cost a whole lot more than they are telling us. And nuclear is the cleanest energy overall and most conservationsit would rather have coal energy i guess.

We currently have a well run federal and state run program. There are still issues with some super fund cleanup sites being stopped by Kerry and other northeast Democrats. And we have to rely heavily on coal until we get off our butts and put in more nuclear. Wind power just cannot cut it.

I am less concerned at this stage with specific bills or issues she put forward. If it's going to be a Year of the single men, it must be tempting to escape the restless world of the General Assembly. Maybe this will open the doors for the Libertarians.

While I don't really have a dog in this fight I would like to point out to the last poster that saying "yes" DOES take something away from others, if it opens up a whole new group to get preferential treatment in Federally funded programs, including college space/money.

This group of decent people deserves the rights of other native American groups. Saying "No" to them rejects the best of America's hard-working, decent folks. Saying "yes" takes nothing from anyone. Native Americans are among the best of out best, and the Lumbee are Native Americans of the first order. Reject anyone like the Lumbee and you reject the greatest strengths and widsdom of our land.

I thought the whole point behind being Lumbee was not being recognized?

Are these time wasting, elected officials, going to reopen the trail of tears for official business also?

The reason the legislation has not passed for over 50 years is that nobody can figure out just exactly what a "Lumbee" Indian is. And still can't.

Re: Land at center of Shuler controversy

James, the mainstream media did not report on the controversial Van Jones until months after Fox News did. The mainstream media has lost most of it's credibility because they do not cover issues negative to Democrats. And with GE and NBC in the pocket of Barack Obama we see journalism dying.

Now I do not expect the media to always be looking for gotcha moments with any US politician or President. I do expect the media to be using constructive criticism is analyzing everything that comes out. And I expect the media to point out inaccuracies that will allow Presidents and others to correct them. And you have to ask yourself why does FOX beat all the other networks combines on many political and economic shows. People tend to watch others who show the ability to be able to be critical of both sides on any one issue. Fox does, the others do not.
