No Joe for Guv.....

The idea of Joe for Governor may sound good at first glance but it would be a disaster. Our state government leaders say they want sunshine to shine throughout government but that is just window dressing. Our state government has a long history of keeping away from the sunlight. Most mold will not grow in sunlight. The inner workings of our state government need to be conducted in the dark. Sure we can talk about sunshine but sunshine can be dangerous. Look at all the sunscreens on the market. What you do in the dark will come to the light also sounds good but it is not good for our state government. Let's face it - we know that some of the things that go on in the dark may not seem to be good for us but they are. Our leaders who work in the dark have specially adapted eyes and they know what is good for us better than we know. They will allow us to have only the sunlight that is good for us. Otherwise we will bask in the sunlight and get terrible skins disorders. Our leaders work in the dark so that we can have life. Too much sunshine would kill us.......and the knowledge that would come with the sunshine would drive us crazy. It's best to accept what they want us to know. Life is easier that way.

Joe Sinsheimer for GOVERNOR!!! This guy would have my vote. And the proposed Titan cement plant, the toxics it will spew are unbelievable. Why is this allowed? When you have over 200 doctors in the area coming out against this plant, why would it even be allowed? $$$$$$$$ How much have the Titan folks contributed to NC campaigns?

Re: Wilson says party funneled checks

The state democratic party has some explaining to do also. Along with the leaders in the legislature and anyone appointed by Easley. This will be a long investigation unless the democrats stop it cold by convincing someone to plead guilty and take the punishment. They are going to throw Easley under the bus if they can to save their hides. And this all happened after the ethics reform was past. Boy, I am sure glad we had that passed, it sure made a difference. Looks like the democratic party may have to adopt an entire wing at central prison. I have not heard about any of the state democratic leadership standing up and screaming foul. I guess they are all at home auditing their own books and consulting with an attorney since this seems to be against the very laws they put in place.

Re: Day 1 highlights

GiggleBox implies that N&O/Dome shouldn't thoroughly report on the SBOE proceedings. Perhaps this is because GB supports elected officials who commit crimes, or perhaps GB just thinks that bygones should be bygones and there's no sense in investigating corruption that has already occurred. Then again, maybe GiggleBox only thinks this way about certain individual politicians or politicians of a certain political party.

Under any scenario, such an attitude is reprehensible and demonstrates disdain for transparent, accountable government and contempt for honest public servants. It's kind of like spitting all over the entire state of North Carolina.

Re: Easley aide seeks to quash subpoena

If this is the same filing as the motion that Poole filed to quash his own subpoena (discussed in a diff. thread), then I think it's legally legit, despite being a damn shame. Attorney-client privilege is an important tenet of our legal system, even if it is inconvenient at times.

This post implies that Poole filed a complaint to quash the subpoena issued for Governor Easley rather than the subpoena for Poole himself. Too many pronouns. If that is the case, I am still curious on what grounds the motion was made.

Nitpicking: Easley was not the DA in Wilmington which is in New Hanover County. Easley served as DA of Brunswick,Pender and perhaps Columbus counties.

Can Dome post a copy of the Complaint or at least summarize for us the arguments that it contains?

I'm also curious what folks think of having Coop, a longtime Easley ally, represent the BOE. I understand that the Board is appointed and thus theoretically they are no less subject to conflicts of interest in their investigation of Easley than the AG's office. However, my instinct is that the AG's office at the highest levels will be unable to overcome their longstanding relationships with the former Governor and thus to fully and effectively argue on the Board's behalf. I think that Roy should consider recusing his office and hiring independent counsel.
