By the time they reach high school, many "at-risk" kids are heavily into
drugs--either as customers or as dealers. "Using" and dealing lead to crime, so just ensuring they are not dropping out of school does nothing to relieve the bigger problem of criminality. Many budding dealers attend school for the sole purpose of engaging more customers--handing out samples, etc.
School is not the magic antidote to entrenched devilment, and it's simplistic to think so. Teachers are not wardens, but teachers.
The "at-risk" kids' problems begin in babyhood--set up a program to prevent abuse, neglect, molestation then and you might achieve something.

One of those times when you don't know whether to laugh or cry.

It took me a while to believe there was actually a conflict about letting people practice falconry on Sundays.

It's my understanding that some groups don't want falconry allowed on Sundays because it's a slippery slope to allowing hunting on Sundays. Somehow the idea of birds "hunting" on a Sunday is a danger.

Someone, please tell me I'm wrong.

I stand amazed in the presence of...lunacy!

(And, yes, sing that last sentence to the tune).

Boseman's bill might be an attempt to force negotiations during the Rule Review process on this item. She did the same thing with stormwater rules last year (filing a bill regarding rule changes that forced both sides to sit down and talk to each other).

Isn't the "hunting on Sundays" rule change issue more to do with falconry and crossbows and less about gunfire?

Surely birds can be allowed to hunt on Sundays without endangering the citizenry.

Sorry hunters but we do not need hunting on Sundays. That is the only day that people can get out and walk in the woods if they want to without fear of getting shot. Even their own property can be dangerous during hunting season. And yes I love deer meat.

Hey, Top, You're not familiar with the new rules at the Nus and Ubserver. You can't actually criticize democrats anymore. You can say that any republican eats babies and sells their organs for profit, but Dems, all you can say is "Gee, they're just swell". I guess NandO knows who's gonna be paying their bills soon. I bet they've already got people lobbying these swell democrats for a little federal 'aid'. Please note that I didn't use the word for swines, female sex workers or theft, graft, corruption or payola anywhere in my above descriptions of our swell and honorable 'public servants'.

Our useless politicians at the local, state, and national levels do not care about how far in debt we are as long as they "bring home the bacon" and get credit for it.

Why would they invite the CROOK at the top of the list of responsiblity for the fleecing and fall of the US housing market, sen. Chris Dodd?
He OUGHT to be in JAIL along with the Banking Queen Barney Frank, and Franklin Raines, ALL DEMOCRATS! Raines fleeced $90 MILLION of your money but HE gets a pass cause he's a vile democrat!

HOW will this NC bunch dole out the $$$ on this? To fellow democrats no doubt. CROOKS.

Maybe it is just me, but I thought the North Carolina "Education" Lottery was a stimulus package for schools.

I support Etheridge's idea. With more money, hopefully the schools will be able to produce adults who are capable of typing without the caps lock on.
