Re: Bill would regulate 'glass roses'

Mark Hilton is a genuis.

By moving the crack pipes behind the counter where the convenience store owner keeps the after-market pre-packaged individual bags of brillo pads and lighters, no crack addict will ever succumb to that dastardly impulse to buy a glass rose. I mean now they'll have to ask for a crack pipe, instead of just pointing to one and saying "and one of these, along with the secret bag of brillo pads and lighters you've been selling me since Nancy Reagan just said no."

Wait, here's an idea. What if Mark Hilton just wrote legislation to BAN CRACK PIPE SALES in convenience stores, rather than just regulate their sale?

No, too much work. Plus the whole free market thing. He is a Republican after all, and glass rose crack pipe manufacturing is still a job in a Republican economy.

The taxpayer spends billions to stop the flow of pot....to little avail. And the pot dealers make billions and deprive the government of the "sin" tax. And don't tell anybody but pot is pretty much available just about anywhere.

We've got alcohol and cigs. We got us a lottery. Your girlfriend can get an abortion. But it will take another 25-50 years to legalize pot. In the meantime we'll just have to sin where we can find it.

If you are traveling down a highway, who would you rather meet. Someone who has smoked a joint or someone who has been drinking? Personally, I would rather meet the pot smoker, first of all they probably will not even be on the road. They will be sitting on a couch somewhere listening to old albums. Second, if they are driving they will be going so slow you probably will not have much damage should they wreck. On the other hand, the drunk will be going 90 miles an hour in a 25 mph zone. I honestly fail to see what is so much more dangerous about pot than alcohol. The state is in the business of the more damaging.

It's just so hard to understand. I mean.....a woman can abort her unborn child.....but can't take a hit off a joint.

Legalize: Tax and regulate, Costly Prohibition has FAILED

Hey Gov, Looky here at what is being proposed out west:

Speaking at a landmark press conference today, California Assemblyman Tom Ammiano (D-San Francisco) introduced comprehensive legislation to tax and regulate the commercial production and sale of cannabis in a manner similar to alcohol.

“With the state in the midst of an historic economic crisis, the move towards regulating and taxing marijuana is simply common sense. This legislation would generate much needed revenue for the state, restrict access to only those over 21, end the environmental damage to our public lands from illicit crops, and improve public safety by redirecting law enforcement efforts to more serious crimes”, Assemblyman Ammiano said. “California has the opportunity to be the first state in the nation to enact a smart, responsible public policy for the control and regulation of marijuana.”

13 states now have medical marijuana programs. Perhaps the governor should spend some time researching and investigating before she opposes the idea. David Work, former head of the NC Board of Pharmacy in a letter to toe editior of the N and O yesterday says its time to "civilize" the use of this plant that has been used by mankind for 4,000 years.

President Obama has gone on record for 'states rights' for medical marijuana and has said: "Sure I inhaled, that was the point".

Bev, have you inhaled?

Or Vague? Perhaps the Governor should spend some time with Cancer Patients whose only relief from the nausea induced chemo is cannabis. On a side note to the governor's statement. Who mentioned anything about legalizing it for kids?

It's a sad state of affairs when these proposals are so vehemently opposed and seen as "heat-seeking" bills instead of the common-sense public policy that is supported by the medical and scientific communities. I think if the media didn't always portray the debate as "heated" or "controversial" and grew up just enough to discuss the merits of the proposals, we might live in a happier, longer living and more mellow society.

I fully agree this is as well. For example, the global warming scare, both sides have plenty of research, so how about we actually sit down and see what is going on then make solutions to fit, instead of continuing the blame game. Another example is the instant claim that offshore drilling would devastate NC, but I have not seeen any scientific evidence to support that notion, yet Perdue and Hagan both are aganist. Why? Do they have scientific evidence to show the potential risks? Have either one of them heard of the Manteo Exploration?
