Gomer, sweet and simple though he was, always turned out to be right and true representative of single professionals. the McCain campaign is grasping at straws & it comes off as totally desperate.

Gray Malkin says "they cannot possibly understand that today's decidedly anti-democratic 'democratic' party bears NO resemblance to the democrat party of their parents, and even less to the party of their grandparents."

Yes, I believe that the Democratic party of my grandparents sacked Wilmington, eliminated voting for blacks, etc, etc, etc. No resemblance, true. And what is the "democrat" party anyway?

Well, it's at least comforting to know a percentage of the 57,859,168 feel the same way about the Andy thing. Heck, I'm a grown man. I should be able to just shrug and get over it. Hang on to the memories, at least, and let go of the reality of Actors = Hollywood = Liberal. Not exactly a shocking revelation. Even good ol' North Carolina boy Andy's still part of the Hollywood crowd. There was a time (most of my life, in fact) when I didn't give a hoot about politics. I liked an artist's music, or I didn't. I liked a movie or TV show, or I didn't. Politics played no part. Now, I can't begin to list the CDs I won't buy, the movies I won't rent, the TV shows I won't watch, because I strongly disagree with the political points of view (strongly liberal) of the musicians and actors. Call it a personal boycott. I just can't put my darned hard-earned dollars into their pockets. With regard to Andy, I consider WHO has kept the show on TV for over 40 years now. Most liberals I've known hated the show. Considered it hokey and cornball, an insult. The people, like me, who loved the show have always been good down-home, middle class, patriotic Americans who "cling to their guns and their religion." Who recall simpler times when the lines dividing good and bad, right and wrong were not a blur. When anyone with a functioning brain KNEW socialism was bad. Infringements upon an individual's liberties were wrong. That freedom IS worth fighting for. That, whether or not you attended church every sunday, faith in God was as essential as the air we breathe. That the Constitution would always be there, hell or high water, guaranteeing our rights as Americans. And now, every one of those things we always held dear is coming under attack. And not just extreme leftists with an Agenda to destroy all we believe in are involved. It's also the average individual who identifies himself or herself as liberal because they have been indoctrinated by teachers and the media into believing "liberals, good; conservatives, bad." Democrats who are democrats because "my daddy was a democrat, and his daddy before him." Ask them if they believe in each item the democrats stand for, from gun control to abortion to expanding government to gay marriage to suppression of free speech to amnesty for illegal aliens, and they'll answer emphatically "Hell, no!" to each issue. Well, then, how can they possibly vote democrat?
"Well, my daddy was a democrat, and my great-grandaddy, and his daddy . . . " They cannot possibly understand that today's decidedly anti-democratic "democratic" party bears NO resemblance to the democrat party of their parents, and even less to the party of their grandparents.America is democratic, right? So what could be more patriotic than the "democratic" party, right? The majority of blacks vote democrat, because they've been indoctrinated into the falsehood of the party looking out for them. Affirmative action, welfare, income tax rebates for those who don't even PAY income tax. The Entitlement segment of the population truly believes they deserve government assistance, and democrats will guarantee they keep getting it. So, hand-in-hand, they'll keep getting handouts, and democrats will keep getting their vote. And blacks never question that democrats have essentially kept them on the plantation decade after decade, with no real "change."Likewise, democrats "reach out" to illegal aliens, to "help them." Do they really care so much about illegals? Of course not. Democrats have done the research: illegals swallow their dogma hook, line and sinker. They'll pander to illegals with every carrot they can find, from drivers licenses to sanctuary cities to "free" health care and welfare checks, IN EXCHANGE FOR LOYALTY AT THE VOTING BOOTHS. Not legally allowed to vote? Not a problem for the "democratic" party! If you support the party that loves you, you can not only vote, you can vote as many times as you wish! Oh, and if you're caught with fake ID, no problem: the Supreme Court has decided that if you say you didn't know the identification was fake, they can't prosecute you! Like Bill Ayers said, "Guilty as hell, free as a bird! What a great country!"America is no longer Mayberry, where we never questioned right and wrong, because we just knew it. We look at our neighbors. They appear to be just regular Americans. Work, pay bills, dream of a better way of life for their children. So what's with the Obama-Biden '08 signs in their yards? DON'T THEY UNDERSTAND WHAT'S AT STAKE HERE??? In most cases, no, I don't believe they do. They've bought into the democrats' falsehoods and impossible promises. They've been taught to never question authority when authority is liberal - only when it's conservative. You don't want "more of the last 8 years," do you? Why, not when Obama, the Messiah, promises Hope and Change, a veritable Mecca awaiting His followers! And the Andy ads epitomize those things I just can't quite express. Cater to the working class, gain their affection, then tear it all away. Those ads aren't directed to liberals, because liberals hated the Andy Griffith Show and all Mayberry represented. They've only cheered good ol' Andy once in his life, and that was when he spat in the eye of his fans, working-class patriotic Americans who believed in him.And I guess that's what offends me the most. It's clear those "Opie and Andy" ads weren't directed at liberals who dispised Mayberry and everyone who "lived" there; they were directed at you and me, we foolish idiots who saw in Mayberry an ideal. What America once was, what Americans once held dear. Andy Griffith gave us what we wanted, while laughing at us behind his back. Like all liberals, Andy wasn't above deception. He'd mouth down-home wisdom and amusing colloquialisms in a friendly Southern drawl and talk about the Founding Fathers and the Bill of Rights, while hoping someday he'd have a candidate who represented what he really believed in, and by that time America will have changed enough for that candidate to be viable. The Change would be nothing short of Socialism. Why, he and Ron would even do a political ad for their dream candidate! Target at the very people who've kept those hefty residual checks rolling in for over forty years! They'll believe me, just as they believed in Mayberry! Stupid, easily misled conservative blue-collar idiots for Obama! Andy was never one of us. But he made a fortune making fun of us. But, if he and Ron Howard and Henry Winkler actually believe those ads will somehow change our minds, they are the fools. Like so many voters that ACORN has registered, they don't exist. They are merely characters someone created. Ron and Andy and Henry do not represent us. We know they never did. And all they represent are THREE votes for Obama.Mayberry never existed except in our hearts. That set was demolished decades ago. But Mayberry did represent something I have faith that the majority of Americans still believe in, and are still willing to protect and preserve: the American way of life, liberty and the persuit of happiness.

If they prefer the mantra of "Change!" and a Marxist community organizer to lead them down the road to Socialism, so be it.
"Greatest president since JFK!" and he was only elected days ago. Already called "The Messiah," and compared to Franklin "New Deal" (and prolong the depression 7 years) Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln (yep, the guy who shat on the Constitution, wiped his arse on the Bill of Rights, used Emancipation solely as a political tool, prevented the South from exercising their right to secede [a right he supported in 1854], and essentially murdered 600,000 to prevent secession on HIS watch).
The good news is, Obama has been raised to a level that NO mere mortal can live up to. Most Americans will not accept Socialism, and leftists will settle for nothing less.
Sign Of Change: So far, Obama has named 37 people to his cabinet. ALL Clinton administration retreads.
"Change," huh?
Seems the Global Village Idiots have won.
God help us.

Hollywood doesn't always produce sweet and simple, but Gomer *was* always right. Now if Jim Nabors does an ad as Gomer for McCain, I'll have to rethink this theory.

Meanwhile, trying to knock Obama as a celebrity didn't work out so well for McCain, and the effort to tag Andy Griffith as a shill from Hollywood probably won't work either.

Naw. Try agin'.

Obama is the darling of Hollywood. They never liked Reagan even though he was one of their own. But Obama has all the qualities that are sacred in Hollywood.

Hollywood has written a script for Obama's administration. And like Mayberry, if anything goes wrong then Hollywood can alter the script and everything will work out just fine.....like it did in Mayberry.

I look forward to Hollywood's influence in Obama's reign. It should be a whole lot of fun with no consequences whatsoever.........and that's what life should be.

Wuptdo> Please stop w. the racism. We're all getting a little tired of it. Is this how you want the rest of the world to see NC? Disagree w. someone's politics all you want, but it's rude to attack someone's character when you don't even know him.
His name is BARACK, not Hussein. Hussein is his middle name and was given to him by his parents, something he had NO control over. I'm pretty sure "Hussein" is like Smith in some parts of the world, so to imply that he is somehow related to Saddam is ridiculous.
You and the McCain campaign are grasping at straws & it comes off as totally desperate. You might as well get used to saying "President Obama". Sorry.
