What is really a sad day is how dead in the water Under the Dome has become since RTB moved on. This site should be jumping and would be if RTB were still here. Such a major news event and this site is dead. Miss you RTB.

It is easier to talk about principles than to live up to them. We must do better to protect the integrity of our political system.

No, Paul, I do not think they will. We have been accustomed to this and accept it as the standard. A few glitzy campaign ads and the voting public will forget all about this. I think we accept this as part of being in office. How many times have you heard people say of politicians? "They're all crooks." Many do not even vote because they fear their vote doesn't count. I think North Carolinians can accept most anything unless the politicians steal the highways. Now that would even make me mad.

Let's face it, Paul, the Dems have a built in base that they can call on to elect even the weakest of candidates. Republicans running against the Dems are fighting the house odds.......and the house always wins.

It is indeed sad but it's just the way it is. The best thing to do is to join up with the Dems and accept any table crumbs that fall your way*. It doesn't feel all that good but you do get by.

*Even though it is not a sound health practice and certainly not endorsed by the N & O, table scraps eaten off the floor can be quite enjoyable. But watch for high heeled shoes as they can hurt like heck.

Will the Voters of North Carolina hold the Democratic Party responsible for these acts of corruption?

YES it is...as are further investigations into the poisoned water in ENC all along the coast...goes back to the vile Jim Hunt...

WHEN is the SBOE going to allow UNaffiliated voters to work the polls?

WHEN is the SBOE going to counter the obama DOJ about the Kinston SLAP in the face about nonpartisan elections that Kinston voted in!!!

WHY would Eric Holder think that Kinston blacks are this stupid?

WBTV in Charlotte wonders if a Perdue Investigation is next up for the State Board of Elections

Leave him right there, because he is no better than any other criminal. There lots criminals that would love to be closer to their families and I am sure if they would just tell the warden he would be happy to move them anywhere they would like. LOL. And remember folks Jim Black is criminal. He just thinks he is smart enough to dupe the good people of this state again.

Keep him there. He did the crime, he needs to do the time. As was stated in the article, he had an opportunity to help reduce his sentence by cooperating with the authorities. He chose not to.

Cry me a river!

Are these same sobbing friends crying for the release of the many poor people who commit crimes and have to take the justice handed down to them.

He broke the law! Found guilty and punished. Just because he was a big shot in state government should not mean he gets special treatment. As a matter of fact, if anything, he should be treated more harshly because he held the public trust.

If you can't do the time don't do the crime. It's not like he was involved in criminal activity to put food on the table or buy the baby some shoes.

Give me a break! If his time is reduced then pass it along to all those sitting in prison. I believe this may be the "2 Americas" we hear about.

We have been through this once. He got his day in court!

Keep him in prison, but at least move him closer to home. Lewisburg is at least 10 hours away from Charlotte and the closest airport is in Williamsport. There is no reason to not move him to a closer prison.

Re: 2007: Banner year for state lobbying

It's based on the official reports filed by lobbyists with the Secretary of State. As I've noted in the past, those reports don't include payments made for non-lobbying — the so-called "consulting loophole."

That said, the Democracy N.C. report is a fair reflection of what the lobbyists themselves reported.

I haven't seen anything regarding the methodology of this study and an analysis of the validity of the methodology. Can anyone help?
