No Joe for Guv.....

The idea of Joe for Governor may sound good at first glance but it would be a disaster. Our state government leaders say they want sunshine to shine throughout government but that is just window dressing. Our state government has a long history of keeping away from the sunlight. Most mold will not grow in sunlight. The inner workings of our state government need to be conducted in the dark. Sure we can talk about sunshine but sunshine can be dangerous. Look at all the sunscreens on the market. What you do in the dark will come to the light also sounds good but it is not good for our state government. Let's face it - we know that some of the things that go on in the dark may not seem to be good for us but they are. Our leaders who work in the dark have specially adapted eyes and they know what is good for us better than we know. They will allow us to have only the sunlight that is good for us. Otherwise we will bask in the sunlight and get terrible skins disorders. Our leaders work in the dark so that we can have life. Too much sunshine would kill us.......and the knowledge that would come with the sunshine would drive us crazy. It's best to accept what they want us to know. Life is easier that way.

Joe Sinsheimer for GOVERNOR!!! This guy would have my vote. And the proposed Titan cement plant, the toxics it will spew are unbelievable. Why is this allowed? When you have over 200 doctors in the area coming out against this plant, why would it even be allowed? $$$$$$$$ How much have the Titan folks contributed to NC campaigns?

Re: Fetzer: I'd so kiss Jesse Helms on the mouth

Crazy dude. I'm so with you. I voted for Jesse twice before I grew up and read a book. But, this thread is about the NCGOP hypocrisy of Tom Fetzer blaming Jim Hunt for the sun showing it's face every day.

Believe it or not, I split my ticket, but "Tom Fetzer" couldn't make change for Governor Hunt if he was given a dollar for a penny whistle.

You know I'm right CD. But I so appreciate your passion. You're rare.

I'd quote you out of context if I didn't have so much respect for you and occasionally agree.

You see, I agree that Jesse Helms had segregationist views at one time. Unfortunately, that's not what you said GoshBox. You trotted out the old wives' tales about flyers printed by Jesse Helms' campaign for misdirection of black folks, and what not.

Things like that did happen, but guess what? No one has ever connected those to any member of Helms' campaign, only to small local groups of "concerned citizens" who overstepped their bounds.

So, before you start slinging mud at Ol' Jesse, then you'd better make sure the mud you're slinging is real.

Take the Democratic party out of the equation, and I guess I'd probably number Jim Hunt in the pantheon of NC greats. However, his failure to control his party as governor (the nominal party head), and his endorsements of Basnight and Rand throughout the years make him less respectable.

Besides, "the best thing to happen to North Carolina"? Really? So not Zebulon Vance? Thomas Wolfe? Nathaniel Macon? Charles Aycock? O. Max Gardner? Willie Mangum? Even on the liberal side, the president of my alma mater, Frank Porter Graham? William Friday? Michael Jordan? Dean Smith? Roy Williams? Jim Valvano? Even Coach K? W.J. Cash?

Jim Hunt was good, but not great. You're seriously putting "Smart Start" on the same level as leading this state to national prosperity after Reconstruction? As putting this state on a path to be an economic and industrial powerhouse? As putting North Carolina culturally on the map?

Maybe its just me, since I'm a Jim Holshouser kind of man.

I remember those same things, and Jesse Helms did none of them. Get your memory straight.

You're right. He never apologized for his segregationist views, but he let Bono buy him a vegetable plate at Morrisons over the "AIDS thing."

You can read as well as me. And if you really remember those times, you'd know Tom Fetzer would not be NCGOP Chair if the real Jesse was still kicking.

Jesse was a horrible man that would damn you and Tom Fetzer to hell as soon as look at you. At least until he got old and started making out with Bono for continued relevance. I'm sorry Fetzer is wrong about attacking Jim Hunt, but when you bring up the Yang of this state, the Yin reappears.

Jim Hunt was the best thing to ever happen to North Carolina. Helms the worst. And the entire irony of a not gay man like Fetzer taking charge of the party makes me sleep well at night, but Jesse turn in his grave.

GoshBox, name me one instance of Republican public corruption since the end of Reconstruction that didn't involve a Democrat Speaker attempting to gain control of the House.

There aren't any. You have to be in power to be corrupt. I remember those same things, and Jesse Helms did none of them. Get your memory straight.

Jim Hunt, a good man? Now that's just plain funny. We suffered under him for 16 long years. Too long.

Fetzer is right and this has nothing to do with any homosexual/gay issues. What is with you people?

Re: Judge: Perdue e-mail order is legal

Here is an example on how digital era can complicate things instead of making them easier. It's so easy to delete e-mails and I don't think it's even possible to recover them and file them as proofs in this trial... As far as I know it's a dead end. I wonder if a motion for leave to file cross-complaint would help the case.

Wow - more WEAK journalism from Mark Johnson

Here, Mark, let me do your job for you again...

40.7% minus 37.8% equals 2.9%. The margin of error on the poll is 4%. Therefore, the poll says NO SUCH THING as "Put GOP in charge". Yet another example of misleading journalism from Mark Johnson.

Keep this up, and your byline is going to become worthless.

I'm old enough to remember the Jesse Helms telephone posts in African American neighborhoods about election day being moved to Wednesday, and his "newsletters" about "Sweet" Jim Hunt being soft with his "pretty mouth" about helpin' chil'ren while Helms went on the Senate floor and said "with the exception of Ryan White, every American that has AIDS got so through an illegal and immoral act," then proceeded to filibuster medical research by reading the Bible while Americans died for over a decade, so Tom "not gay" Fetzer can sit on a turnip and spin.

Hard.

I will never forget the corruption of where Tom's NCGOP party came from, much less where it's apparently headed... Tom Fetzer's toilet. What a jerk for attacking a good man like Jim Hunt. APOLOGIZE TOM FETZER.

At least Jesse had the decency to apologize on his death bed. Look around Tom Fetzer, the sheet around your neck does not a hood make anymore. That's over.

Make a new idea nowhere man.

Sitting in your nowhere land.

Making plans for no body.
