Re: Scandal follows Oblinger

I could understand if someone had a unique talent but also had a "smudge" on his resume from some indiscretion out of the past .... that had been followed by a reasonable period of notable achievement ..... BUT Oblinger's "indiscretion" is still a steaming pile of cr*p.

He was fully aware that he was part of a conspiracy to circumvent a very clear policy. He made a conscious decision to take part in that conspiracy.

I could see him joining a faculty somewhere and contributing .... but to be given Academic CEO status so soon after being "caught red-handed" is ridiculous.

New Mexico .... have you no shame?

Lets see if I get this right. Falling on the sword to save the reputation of another individual is cowardly? Not where I come from. He stood by his decision, is taking the heat from idiots like you, and moving on with life at the same time. Would you be willing to stand by a desision you made if it turned out to be less than right. Not saying his choice was wrong, just asking you if you would have the guts to stand by your decision, or would you just pass it off on someone else to cover your ass?

Career politicians breed corruption and lies. Vote them out or they die in office.

Option one....you win
Option two....you lose

Great point Paul.

You ought to file one if nobody else has.

I guess anyone can file a ethics complaint against Rand. I am surprised someone in the Republican Party has not.

How is it not a conflict of interest for Rand to be lawyering against an outfit whose budget he basically controls? Is there any real protection in the state ethics laws and enforcement of them?

Same old same old. One would have hoped that Beth Wood brought a fresh perspective to the job, but the same ole boys are calling the same ole shots. At least Les Merritt wasn't part of the machine.

Tony Rand and Marc Basnight should be tarred and feathered. When will this state get sick of their corruption?

If you move to this state, and don't know anything about its politics, know this: voting Democrat will ensure the continuation of corruption. Either vote Republican or vote for nothing at all.

Who's guiding the ship? Who was guiding it before? No one. And while the administrators may be gone, with their six months of vacation at their present salary, it's as if they never ever left.

I feel like I should be wearing pajamas with feet and drinking egg nog, but it's 85 outside.

No matter what though, the NC Democrat party will continue to slick off this bit of rain like water from a goose's back, and will try to turn the blame-train toward Burr and Foxx and whoever the scapegoat of the week is.

Perdue has a big problem

Gerlach is essentially working for her at the non-governmental Democratic slush fund - Golden Leaf.

Andy Willis is her legislative liason.

Ruben Young is her Sec. of Crime and Public Safety.

All Perdue did was shuffle the chairs on the deck of the USS NC Democrat.

That boat is starting share some characteristics with the Titantic. I'd suggest she clean house now and get rid of all the Easley carryover.

Even Brutus had more honor

Mary Easley has cost 3 others their reputation and jobs -- Campbell should very well have resigned, and Nielsen and Oblinger were caught up in the after-effects of her scandal. And yet she still has the audacity to remain in her position while the lieutenants figuratively fall on their swords?

"Forget not, Zeus, the author of these crimes!"
- Brutus, before taking his own life, after his remaining co-conspirators had done the same.

Jim Woodward

Interim Chancellor Jim Woodward will be great. My son graduated from UNC-Charlotte in 2005 and I had the opportunity to meet Jim Woodward several times during those four years. Woodward is A+ and it is great he has agreed to take on this task.
I think he may have taught at NC State at some time in the past as well, but I may be wrong.
