Great question! So great, in fact, that I had to do some research before I could answer!

There is a limit on each InstaSave offer. So you can use the promotion discount up to the limit on that particular offer.

You can always find the limits for each offer listed online here:

I'm wondering if you can use (use it, then re-enter it and use it again) the same instasave coupon more than once?

Re: How to read your receipt... @ Harris Teeter

Hi Steph! As I mentioned below, per NC state law, stores are supposed to charge you on the full price of the product before coupons. But if the item is on sale, ie: rings up at a discounted price from the start, that is the price that is used to calculate tax. So BJs is correct.

With store coupons like the ones you received, it kind of depends on the way the register is set up, and it will vary from chain to chain.

Hey Sue, welcome back!

Just wanted to throw in an observation. I have noticed that most places charge sales tax on the discounted prices. It becomes really obvious at places like BJs, where the tax and total is calculated after each individual coupon is subtracted.

And last week at CVS I received a register coupon for a free candy bar, which I used right then, and the $1.99 candy bar was totally free, no tax.

:-)

Good question. In NC, by state law, you are charged tax on the price of the item BEFORE coupons. (unfortunately)

Thank you for breaking it down like that. When we use coupons, do we pay sales tax on the cost of the item before the coupon or after it? Just wondering.

My experience has been that you can use them at another store. I even got Wal-mart to accept one.:) They say manufacturers coupons.

Sue's right, you should ask before you shop if there's any doubt, but I used an OYNO from Harris Teeter yesterday at Food Lion for $1.00 off Land of Lakes Half & Half and had no problem.

Usually OYNO coupons expire within a couple of weeks, so sometimes I lose out on redeeming one if it's from a store where I shop less frequently. Recently a Food Lion cashier tipped me that Food Lion honors its OYNOs a few days past the expiration date -- and then she successfully scanned my "expired" coupon. I don't know if this is true for other stores, but it's worth asking if you're holding a recently expired OYNO.

Good question. You'll note that most of them carry the store logo of the store where they were issued but also say manufacturer's coupon. I find that stores that accept competitors coupons (like HT) generally take them. But the best advice is to check at customer service before you shop. That way you know before you check out.

I just got one of these Tuesday at Lowes Foods. I bought a bunch of dog treats and I got a $1.50 OYNO coupond from Pupperoni.

I have a question. Can these be used at any store?? Like mine was issued at Lowes Foods, but could I use it at Harris Teeter??

Thanks for all the great info you share. I love reading this blog every day. It's like an addiction. Here and SavvyDollar. I'm hooked.

Re: Coupons 101: Walgreens Register Rewards explained...

Well, I can tell you now, that I am no longer shopping at walgreens... I think their program for register rewards should be used whenever I feel like it and should be used as 'walgreen currency' CVS's program doesn't care about expiration dates or how many items you have, I love CVS.

I went to walgreens today to use my rewards that I got a month ago and b/c it was expired, I couldn't use it!! If it was CVS I could have! What a joke.
