"Fibber"? Really, who says that? Liddy herself must have come up with this one. After that swell sock-hop at the malt shop...

Liddy is desperate if she is resorting to childish name calling like "Fibber Kay." Do adults really talk and behave this way? why is it that Republicans resort to negative attack ads so quickly - is it lack of ideas? Lack of imagination? The ad says far more about the lack of ideas and principles of Liddy Dole than it does about Kay Hagan.

I can't wait to see Bev Perdue try to wiggle out of her clear cut position on off-shore drilling ("never occur on my watch") given that those in her own party are now supporting the "Gang of 10" plan. Heck, by election time, she will probably claim that she came up with the idea for off-shore drilling. But don't let her!

Mayor McCrory and other Republicans are the ones in North Carolina that have demonstrated the leadership and vision around off-shore drilling coupled with conservation, etc.

The man's innocent until proven guilty.

And Hagan is the pot calling the kettle black. She's raking donation from special interests all over-- and many fol;ks who've benefited from her budget perks.

Re: Dole changes planes in TV ad

Actually, nothing we do to drill for oil in environmentally sensitive areas is going to add much to supply (regardless of timing) or affect the global price of oil as long as countries such as China, India, Brazil, and Russia are rapidly increasing their own consumption. If each person on the planet used as much oil and other energy as the typical American, we would wipe out global reserves very quickly. Furthermore, it really is immoral to rape environmentally sensitive areas when Americans can't be bothered to conserve or get rid of their gas guzzling SUVs and F-250s. I guess the big wartime sacrifice many make is to put a yellow ribbon on the back of their Tahoe and then complain about high gas prices. Why not just take more oil from Iraq to pay down the war dept? But seriously, the other issue neocons ignore is that more oil means more greenhouse gas emissions - continuing to emit GHG at current rates is like playing Russian roulette with a loaded gun. It does not make sense. Well, the planet will be here long after we humans drive ourselves to extinction. As for Dole, she is a do-nothing yet amazingly ineffective Senator who shows up only at election time with the typical rightwing drivel - this country can't afford 6 more years of her so-called "leadership."

So, because it is going to take time, we shouldn't do it? Brilliant. And it wouldn't be 10 years, more like 4-5 years.

If by "bring down gas prices" she means drilling off the coast of NC, I hope she realizes it would be at least 10 years before that would make any difference...and I doubt any one around costal NC cares for the idea anyway. Beside, what good would ... in ten years do for gas prices today?

Mr. UNC Republican:

I have not heard the ad and so cannot comment on its content.

Are you challenging any of the assertions in the ads targeting Dole's record? If so, please specify them. If not, please avoid associating an issue ad with the kinds of lies and smears to which John Kerry was subjected in 2004.

And please, don't go out of your way to label yourself as out of touch with the facts of this campaign. "Man enough"? Leaving aside the offensive inference, has it escaped your notice that both Sen. Dole and Sen. Hagan are women? And both tough enough to take care of themselves in debate, I might add--their gender being as irrelevant as always to their intellectual capacities.

Hagan knows her stances will not attract voters so she knows she can not run a clean campaign and must resort to this sort of harmful ads.

Some smarty will of course say well Bush did this to Kerry, but that is not this race. How Dole gone negative in this campaign? No

Why can Hagan not let this be about the facts and be man enough to challenge those facts in debates instead of letting George Soros call the shots.

Wow...I mean, I'm trying to figure out what mental hoops and turns you have to take to find the Hagan comment an insult against Bob Dole. Those campaign staffers must just live in a whole 'nother world, where everyone is out to get them, and evil lurks in every shadow..

Depending on the stat's laws, you can claim residency if you're a property owner and barely step foot in the state. This was likely the case with our Senator Dole and their Senator Dole.

Sidebar: Did Erskine Bowles bother to make any political hay out of the fact that the first time Senator Dole voted in the state of North Carolina, it was for herself?

So Kansas violated election laws to register Liddy Dole to vote despite never living there?

I'd say Liddy Dole's jumping on the illegal-immigration bandwagon, not Hagan's, is actually opportunism of the highest order.

What else have you done for us, lately, Liddy? Nothing at all.

I was responding to this quote by the Dole spokesperson

"However, it's almost comical to see Mrs. Hagan's desperate political opportunism in introducing an immigration enforcement bill after doing nothing about illegal immigration during her 10 years in Raleigh,"

eta: I see where the confusion comes from in my second paragraph.
