The $60.00 cheeseburger episode reminds me of the TV series, “The Jeffersons.” Remember George and Louise? I think the theme song went like this (so sing along):

Well we're movin on up,
To the east side.
To a deluxe apartment in the sky.
Movin on up
To the east side.
We finally got a piece of the pie.

Fish don't fry in the kitchen;
Beans don't burn on the grill.
Took a whole lotta tryin'
Just to get up that hill.
Now we're up in the big leagues
Gettin' our turn at bat.
As long as we live, it's you and me baby
There ain't nothin wrong with that.

I have eaten one burger, that’s a plenty,
Two would cost a hundred and twenty.
Our motto is “Virtute enim ipsa non tam multi praediti esse quam videri volunt,”
That means don’t let ‘dem Italians think you ain’t no big spender.
We’ll worry about the tab somewhat later,
We had onion rings but I wanted a ‘tater.
And waiter, when you come back bring me a doggie bag,
My dog ain’t ever had no cheeseburger with this price tag!
I love Italian ‘cheeburgers,’ nothing could be finer,
Wonder what the poor people are doing back in North Carolina?

Refrain…..

The $60 buck cheeseburger is a good story going into the 4th of July weekend. Some things are priceless…………..$4 gas, $60 cheeseburgers, weak dollars………..for everything else there is Mastercard.

I’m gonna charge some hamburger meat on my Mastercard and grill them in the backyard on the 4th. And I will eat at least three…………$180.00 worth. I think that makes me affluent?

Have a happy 4th of July!

The $60 cheeseburger and onion rings combo apparently is the Hotel Chef's masterpiece--a work of art.

I am sure Andy is up for doing the spot as long as Easley flies him to and from the spot on the taxpayers' dime.

My biggest complaint is why go to Italy (or France) and eat a Cheeseburger and Onion Rings? That is a crime!!!!

Sorry Mr. former district attorney, attorney general and soon to be former governor, there is absolutely no defense of your fancy vacations. Way to go Mikey. Could we just clean house in Raleigh, let all of them hit the road and start over?

Easley is just another arrogant, elitist Democrat who shows nothing but blatant disregard for NC's hard working, over-taxed citizens. Keep democrats in power and expect more of the same.

Re: Cheeseburgers in paradise?

Top ten statements that may have been used in defense of the $60.00 Cheeseburger in Paradise:

10. When the waiter brought the check for the cheeseburger, he winked at me and said, “Thanks for the big tip, Fonzie.”
9. It was so big I split it with Goober. He ate $30.00 worth of it. You should have seen the size of that sucker! It was not your average Big Mac!
8. Haven’t you ever heard the old saying? “When in Rome eat $60.00 cheeseburgers.” I think it was from the movie, “Three $20.00 Coins in a Fountain.”
7. We have more important things to think about than cheeseburgers! Like hot dogs. And tacos. And let’s not forget barbecue!
6. They have this tower that is leaning and about to fall down. So I think the $60.00 must include some type surcharge to get the tower back straight? What could I do? I just had to help! It was like a pancake supper for the swim team. Does that sound reasonable?
5. Well, we may have splurged on the cheeseburger a little but think of the money we saved by not renting the “Pope Mobile.”
4. These trips are beneficial to North Carolinians. I learned that Louis Vuitton is French. I always thought Louie was Italian. You can’t learn stuff like that at Mickey D’s eating a regular cheeseburger.
3. I talked with many Italians who wanted to know why we pay $60.00 for a cheeseburger and don't try out "The Olive Garden Restaurant." They are very friendly people. And they kept telling me to say ‘hello’ to Opie and Aunt Bea.
2. The Italians are talking about coming to North Carolina to do business - a string of cheeseburger restaurants. One of them asked, “How about going in with me after you get out of office? What do you say, John Boy? Be sure and ask Billy if he wants in.”

1. Gov. Arnold out there in Californie is noted for saying, “Hasta la vista, Baby.” Now I will be known for saying, “Ciao, baby!”

As I always say, "You've got to sell the french fries." And how about, "Sell the sizzle, not the steak." Don't forget, "You've got to spend money to make money!" And my favorite, "It only cost 35 cents more to go first class."

I had a Big Mac in Luxembourg for lunch last weekend for only 6 euros. That night I ate a really nice meal of duck and roasted potatoes with a dessert and wine for under 60 american dollars.

These trips can be quite benefical to North Carolina even though they may seem expensive to "ye of little faith!" Take the case of the $60.00 cheeseburger with onion rings. I believe from what we have learned that we will be able to fly cheeseburgers and onion rings from the Global Transpark to Italy. We sell them for sixty bucks a pop. Then load all that money on the plane for the return trip. I am guessing that you can load a whole bunch of cheeseburgers on a 747 transport plane. And even with jet fuel being high, I still believe we can make a profit off $60.00 cheeseburgers. Can you imagine the excited Italians waiting for the plane to land? Give me a break. Our leaders are working hard and are always one or two steps ahead of us. If this deal won't fly then "Rocky is a pansy!"
