Minnie - You've chosen to ignore a fairly key component of the discussion.

The only thing the lobbyists in question apparently signed up for was their registration with Marshall's OFFICE. She REGULATES them. She determines whether or not they can do whatever it is they do. And now she's using that list, an official state resource, to send emails asking for money.

Oh well. Its not like she flew around the state with Governor Easley on campaign trips or anything, right?

Lobbyists receive invitations to fundraisers from legislators all the time. Why doesn't this "rankle" them?

Elaine Marshall, just another good old gal. She likes to think she's above all the dirt and sleeze, but here she is, being caught again, right back in the mud. We can do without another Democrat victory in 2010.

Mr. Mills says: "they had some sort of relationship with Secretary Marshall in the past."

Mr. Mills means: "they provided their email address to Secretary Marshall when they registered with the Secretary of State's Office."

How many other times has Secretary Marshall emailed those people? Is this really the first time its happened?

"We'd be glad to remove their names" doesn't address how they got on the list in the first place. We're talking about official state resources... her office regulates lobbyists... and the implication is pay-to-play...

Nothing like Busch league campaigning to inspire the DSCC to come here and spend the $10MM it will take to beat Burr. Here’s hoping that the campaign can get it together before the end of the 4th Quarter.

Crazy dude. I'm so with you. I voted for Jesse twice before I grew up and read a book. But, this thread is about the NCGOP hypocrisy of Tom Fetzer blaming Jim Hunt for the sun showing it's face every day.

Believe it or not, I split my ticket, but "Tom Fetzer" couldn't make change for Governor Hunt if he was given a dollar for a penny whistle.

You know I'm right CD. But I so appreciate your passion. You're rare.

I'd quote you out of context if I didn't have so much respect for you and occasionally agree.

You see, I agree that Jesse Helms had segregationist views at one time. Unfortunately, that's not what you said GoshBox. You trotted out the old wives' tales about flyers printed by Jesse Helms' campaign for misdirection of black folks, and what not.

Things like that did happen, but guess what? No one has ever connected those to any member of Helms' campaign, only to small local groups of "concerned citizens" who overstepped their bounds.

So, before you start slinging mud at Ol' Jesse, then you'd better make sure the mud you're slinging is real.

Take the Democratic party out of the equation, and I guess I'd probably number Jim Hunt in the pantheon of NC greats. However, his failure to control his party as governor (the nominal party head), and his endorsements of Basnight and Rand throughout the years make him less respectable.

Besides, "the best thing to happen to North Carolina"? Really? So not Zebulon Vance? Thomas Wolfe? Nathaniel Macon? Charles Aycock? O. Max Gardner? Willie Mangum? Even on the liberal side, the president of my alma mater, Frank Porter Graham? William Friday? Michael Jordan? Dean Smith? Roy Williams? Jim Valvano? Even Coach K? W.J. Cash?

Jim Hunt was good, but not great. You're seriously putting "Smart Start" on the same level as leading this state to national prosperity after Reconstruction? As putting this state on a path to be an economic and industrial powerhouse? As putting North Carolina culturally on the map?

Maybe its just me, since I'm a Jim Holshouser kind of man.

You're right. He never apologized for his segregationist views, but he let Bono buy him a vegetable plate at Morrisons over the "AIDS thing."

You can read as well as me. And if you really remember those times, you'd know Tom Fetzer would not be NCGOP Chair if the real Jesse was still kicking.

Jesse was a horrible man that would damn you and Tom Fetzer to hell as soon as look at you. At least until he got old and started making out with Bono for continued relevance. I'm sorry Fetzer is wrong about attacking Jim Hunt, but when you bring up the Yang of this state, the Yin reappears.

Jim Hunt was the best thing to ever happen to North Carolina. Helms the worst. And the entire irony of a not gay man like Fetzer taking charge of the party makes me sleep well at night, but Jesse turn in his grave.
