When I looked at the spending that was "restored" to the budget as a result of the tax increases, only $270 Million out of $990 Million was education spending. So how the heck do they claim the taxes were "for education"?

Interestingly, although Bev discusses a litany of programs in her long list of regrets regarding the budget, not a single word is mentioned regarding growth.

As a long time creature of the state, Perdue cares only about preserving "Core Programs," without expending much thought about how to create an enlarged tax base necessary to support such programs over the long-term.

75% of the electorate disapproves of Ms Perdue, for good reason. Who needs a governor that increases taxes and reduces government services at a time of record unemployment during a painful recession?

The Greenville Daily Reflector reports today that school cuts were much less than expected.

Proof that the Dems did a good job of scaring the public and were able to ease through the tax increase with only superficial spending cuts. Smoke and mirrors is still a good tactic in politics. True reform of state spending is a fantasy. Expect rising spending and rising taxes - the path to Democratic heaven.

A fair point, but appropriations bills are the only public records available.

There's no way to know who put individual earmarks into the budget.

C'mon, RTB, you know enough about the budget process to understand that sponsoring appropriations bills (let alone cosponsoring appropriations bills) is NOT an accurate measure of what members are actually asking for.
