Re: Three spending bills have solid support

I do not believe our state representatives have a needed mental skill called COMMON SENSE!. If we are $3 BILLION in the hole, where the blank are we getting $284 million?

And what shocks me more is the gimme gimme gimme voters of NC voted this people back into office. This will only get fixed by voting the Democrats out of Republican favored districts and beat a few Democrats in their favored districts.

LARRY SHAW is the one fool who is asking for $173 million in these bad economic times. Does he have a money printing press in his closet? You need to print these people names time and time again.

Or, one is an appropriations chair while the other has close to zero influence on the budget process.

Only the 0.01% of the population who knows the size of the budget can put these numbers in perspective. When reporting budget numbers, you should always attempt to provide that perspective. Few of us really know the difference between millions, billions and trillions.

Re: Cowell seeks $76m in state spending

Alot of these programs sound like overlaps of existing programs and others sound just plain wasteful. As a small business owner I would love to expand some of the aspects of my business and give my employees a 7% raise, however, I have to budget within my means unlike the state. But it's great to see my representative and her fellow Democrats going on a spending spree. I'll take Bill Daughtridge's approach to state spending over Cowell's any day.

I will write some more posts about the spending, but I don't agree that listing the spending is making someone look bad.

A certain segment of the readership will disapprove of any government spending, I suppose, but others may be just as likely to approve of their priorities. And still others may note that $277 million is a little over 1 percent of the state budget.

You mentioned in an earlier post how this is an inaccurate measure of what members are actually trying to accomplish. Not everyone here reads every post, so you ought to keep that disclaimer in all future posts in this series.

That is, keep in the disclaimer, unless your intention is simply to make Dems look bad.

He and Dalton seem to have two very different philosophies when it comes to government spending.

This is a continuation of OUT OF CONTROL spending by Dalton and Hagan.

A fair point, but appropriations bills are the only public records available.

There's no way to know who put individual earmarks into the budget.

C'mon, RTB, you know enough about the budget process to understand that sponsoring appropriations bills (let alone cosponsoring appropriations bills) is NOT an accurate measure of what members are actually asking for.
