Although I am not a great fan of booze and cigarettes I think is quite unfair to raise taxes for paying teachers. A much more profitable thing would be drug legalization starting with marijuana. As far as I can see this would solve more problems at once.

The Senate Finance Committee will consider a proposal today that would reduce the sales tax rate but expand the services it covers, repeal the food tax and raise sin taxes.

Oh yes, drinking and smoking in the tax-exempt church that tells you not to do either, but vote for Bush anyway just 'cause will now cost more.

Hey Grier how about a tax on fatty foods or candy to get people to stop eating fatty foods or candy. That comment about smoking was very nanny state of you. What next? a tax on conservative radio or better yet a tax on a car radio. We would want to prevent any car accidents where a distracted driver was changing the station.

Strangely enough, the governor's office has completely flipped over the issue of adjusting teacher pay for cost of living. Back in 2005, it was part of the governor's process; now he's calling it "smoke and mirrors."

It's a good thing that cigarettes, booze and gambling are available to pay for the children's education and try to repair the mental health services.
