Hi folks, I've been studying Faison, NC long before they got targetted for a huge landfill about 5 years ago(actually proposed in Calypso, but Faison would get to see trash mountain.)

So Proctor, Faison's at the NW tip of Duplin, not at it's heart. It bleeds history (while most places are proud to even scrape with greatness.) For example, when Union forces from the coast met-up with Sherman's forces coming out of Georgia - they stayed in Faison, NC.

Beyond this VP visit, Faison is making the news because the state senator (Bell)from neighboring Sampson County is currently sponsoring a bill to strip Fasion of it's juristiction over property adjacent to I-40's exit 355. The senator wants to clear-the-way to build a plant to burn chicken terds in a 300' smokestack, right on I-40. Faison facinates me because they seem to be a target for every enviormentally staining idea that would cause people to go somewhere else. It really is facinating - they're like a stink magnet. Sampson county's giving the plant $3.5 Million (because they're going to hire some truck drivers.) What a strong magnet.

Also notable, Biden's visit is a closed meeting. Just anybody can't show up and see the VP. I bet the usual suspects will smile broadly and we'll see their pictures in the papers - maybe Sen. Bell will show how he smiles as he's doing what he does.

I didn't think anybody still had their heads in the sand still but you have shown that there still are people who think that a visit by a politician is a good thing ad that some good will come from it. Chances are that Purdue is holding an orgy or a smoke out at the governor's mansion. that is why they are probably travelling here. none of the politicians we have in place now have ever done anything to earn the position, most are just there to force history to happen. You can not force good history. History happens, we have always been sorry when we have tried to force something and so far, this history is far from a dream and getting to be more anf more of a nightmare

This is great news for all of North Carolina because for those who know only our larger cities from Wilmington to Greensboro to Asheville, there is a world of discovery to be experienced by visiting the dynamic and talent-filled smaller cities and towns of the Old North State.

With Wayne County, Mich. (Detroit), getting the (er, un, Detroit) Lions' share of the national media attention during NCAA Final Four week, it is reassuring to know that Wayne County, N.C. (Pikeville), will not go unnoticed! And Faison, in the heart of Duplin County, will be another notable destination on this visit by the Vice President and the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.

Paraphrasing "Some of My Favorite Things" from "The Sound of Music," I would have to say that Pikeville and Faison became "two of my favorite places" amogn the towns of Eastern North Carolina when I was traipsing about the Old North State trying to be like Joe Biden in running at age 30 for the U.S. Senate in North Carolina's 1978 Democratic primary.

But I would also have to give a lot of credit to the late News & Observer columnist Jack Aulis, for stirring a greater personal interest in North Carolina places large and small through his many "Carolina Crossroads" columns back in the 1970s.

All in all, anyone who cares about the diversity of urban and rural life in North Carolina would have to be pleased that an incumbent Vice President and Cabinet department head will be traveling out of Washington long enough to give their complete attention to the promise and potential of two of the storied towns of the Old North State, "where the weak grow strong and the strong grow great."

Haven't we had enough of him and his type, you know, politicians. He and Chaney are one in the same. just a different look. Same thing for Obama and W. i thought it could not get any worse than the job W was doing. So far. Obama is no better, maybe even worse. He has certainly made huge ground on spending. He has spent 4 generations worth of money in 100 days. A good indicator was his inaugeration. He Criticized W for spending 50 million on his so Obama spent 170 million on his for some reason that is going to lead to financial recovery?? Ever read Animal Farm?? Seems Orwell was right. Maybe W will end up being #2 as far as worst president in history. Obama is certainly trying to get the title of #1. Change for the sake of change may not be such a good thing especially since he never said what the changes would be. the only change I see is the change that used to be dollars. Hope you guys are happy with the history you helped make, you will be paying for it for a long long time. I am leaving the county because of the incompemetent government that is in place

Glad when it's over.

I know Hiden Joe Biden will be glad when it's over so he can at least go down to the 7-11 for a cup of coffee. It was reported today that they aren't even going to let him go to the door to hand out candy to the trick-or-treaters. That's cold.

Jjsmith Of course he does! He blogs on "Talking about Politics," too, and let me assure you his comments there are every bit as intelligent, incisive and sensible as they are here - and every bit as comprehensible.

Actually, I think Dan Blue has probably been extremely respectful of poor ole Tangoz by the simple act of refraining from making comment.

But let it not be said that Tangoz' candidacy stands for nothing. It stands as an important reminder that we have really, truly fallen down in a nation. I think one could put together a folder entitled "Indications of a Nation in Decay," and include the clips of Robin Hayes lying about what he said about "America haters," Sarah Palin's comments about "real Americans," some other dingbat's recent comments about the "real Virginia" (as opposed to the district where McCain's numbers are low), and virtually anything that Poor Terrell has remembered long enough to repeat on this site and that of TAP.

I saw General Wesley Clark last night in Monroe

He did a wonderful job and spoke to a packed house. We had planned for 200 and wound up having 300 people show up for our fall GOTV rally. General Clark received a very enthusiastic standing ovation and was extremely patient while just about everyone in the hall had their pictures made with him.

The people in this state are angry that people are dying because of the failure of the politicians in charge. They happened to be Democrats on all levels. That includes the ones currently serving prison sentences to include former Speaker of the State House Jim Black.

Now we find out that the government is $320 million in the red not counting the over $800 million the general Assembly borrowed without voter approval this year. Maybe Hagan can squeeze recall her millions in PORK to help balance the budget that she claims to have done. Even though it is required by State Constitutional Admendment.

Dan Blue disrespects the voters in the 33rd and disrespects your truly by his total oblivion to us. He is a leader in the GA and deserves the criticism for it's failures. I respected him when this race started but that is fading fast because he does not take the democratic process seriously.
