So, it ended less in North Carolina and more in a television studio in Washington DC on the night of the North Carolina primary after Hillary won Indiana by significantly less than she was predicted to.

If you look at this graphic from RCP, you can see clearly that the general public moved away from Sen Clinton after May 6th and the subsequent proclamation of finality my Mr. Russert and the rest of the chattering class.

OMG - I used to love those books as a kid, too.

And can I just add you're at your best when you're a little snarky? Love it. My chief regret about being out on the trail tonight is that I'll miss Dan Rather's bizarre metaphor of the night.

How much more luster do you need??

President Clinton is practically living here, Sen. Clinton will be criss-crossing the state for the second or third time on Thursday (from Maya Angelou to Gen. Hugh Shelton...only Hillary has that range!), Chelsea has been to more college campuses in NC than most professors...I mean, c'mon now!

Let us know what the "standard" is so we can know if we met it other than this ephemeral "oh, Indiana is getting more than us" feeling.

Did we conveniently forget to mention that Hillary did not agree to the debate date the Barack Obama had? Please do not lay the blame on Barack. The NCDP should have pushed for Clinton to accept his date or an earlier date. We are only second fiddle because we let the media and the Clinton campaign peg us as such. Afterall, according to Hillary, North Carolina is not a BIG state or swing state. She considers NC unwinnable for the democrats in the fall. Funny thing though the republicans do not, especially if Barack Obama is the one at bat, hence the 527 ads.

Watch out Obama here comes two-gun Annie Oakley! Calling Clinton Annie Oakley was an attempt by Obama to insult Hillary but maybe she should adopt it as her nickname!
Obama keeps telling her to get out of town but she keeps showing up at high noon for the shootout-and beats him! He just can't put her away and she just whopped him good in Pennsylvania!
As an independent, I'm leaning towards voting for the war hero on the straight-talk express but I have to admit that the woman has grit and persistence. She's also the only candidate who's right on national health care. Obama's health care plan is more like a box of band aides-and they're not even waterproof!
This state is going to play an important role and there's going to be a shootout on main street!
Watch out Obama, two-gun Annie Oakley is heading for North Carolina and all the money in the world might not save you from this fiesty woman!

Not that NC would go democratic anyway, but wouldn't it be interesting if the voters turned out for Clinton just to let Obama know they don't like his comments about rural people "clinging" to religion?

Obama had the chance to show that he really believes, and to apologize for his comment, but he didn't. Obama didn't talk about his faith. Instead he talked about talking about faith, about politicians needing to "go to church" so they could connect with people whose faith is important in how they vote.

What a fake.

Hit-and-Run Artists

These spammers of late are nothing more than hit-and-run artists. I have yet to see anyone who posts items such as the one below actually stick around and respond to other posters. That should be telling enough.

Can we at least get a germaneness rule?

How should we handle spam?

The rule that I have been following is no spam. I usually grab a sentence and paste it in Google. If it shows up on another blog verbatim, I delete it. Otherwise, I let it stand, even if it's tiresome, redundant or whatever.

I really don't want to spend all my time deleting comments, although I would prefer that people link to stuff rather than repost it. I'm open to suggestions on how I could set a rule that separates the wheat from the chaff without putting me in the position of making judgment calls all day long.

Is it too arbitrary for Dome to delete these random spammings?

Can we have a rule that if the comment doesn't pertain to the content of the post and is a blatant plea for support, it will be subject to deletion?

Sen. Hillary Clinton received the endorsement of the 'Pittsburgh Tribune-Review' Editorial Board on April 20,2008. The article 'In Pennsylvania's Democrat primary for president: Vote for Clinton' can be found at:
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/opinion/archive/s_563322.html

Excerpts from the article include:

"...The presidency is no place for on-the-job training in the best of times -- and certainly not when the nation is at war, the economy is struggling, and federal governance in general is adrift."

"In sharp contrast, Clinton is far more experienced in government -- as an engaged first lady to a governor and a president, as a second-term senator in her own right."

"More important, she is extremely knowledgeable on crucial foreign issues. Meeting with Trib editors last month, she ticked off an impressive list of international challenges and the solutions..."

"As we noted at the time of that meeting, Clinton's decision to sit down with the Trib was courageous, given our longstanding criticism of her. That is no small matter. Political courage is essential in a president. Clinton has demonstrated it; Obama has not."

"She has a real record. He doesn't."

"She has experience of value to a president. He doesn't."

"Clearly, she's the wiser choice to represent Democrats this fall."

Hillary's supporters agree wholeheartedly with the 'Pittsburgh Tribune-Review' Editorial Board.

Hillary has the experience, compassion, intelligence, and tenacity to implement solutions to problems we are passionate about (bringing our troops home, strengthening the middle class, and enacting health care reforms).

Hillary in 2008!

Tom,

I think it's just because a certain number of respondents are passing on an ideological self-identification, and SUSA doesn't include an undecided/unsure number in its table.

Hey Liam,

Survey USA does an ideology breakdown. Their most recent poll showed the Democratic primary electorate as 19% conservative, 37% moderate, and 23% liberal. Not sure why it doesn't add up to 100 but gives you some idea of the relative proportions.

That's a research error on the part of the AP, not the Clinton campaign I suspect.

Remember, Guy Cecil, Clinton's national political director, was Erskine Bowles' campaign manager in 2004. He knows the state as well as anyone. I suspect Clinton will do much better in this state than most people think.

As to the black and liberal comment, most NC blacks stay at home for the primary. And, although there are many liberal activist "latte-sippers" (as Senator Clinton calls them) that vote in the primary, there are many more blue collar and conservative Democrat primary voters across the state. Think about it, when was the last time a real progressive was nominated for statewide office?

Hey Tom or Dean, how about an ideological breakdown on your next survey?
