This is typical of the democratic party, deny any wrong until a judge tells you different. They are so hung up on this power thing that they can not tell what is right or wrong any more. I have been a democrat for over 40 years and these people are not true democrats, in fact the democrat party is hardly a party anymore but rather like the mob.

This guy is out of touch with reality. This tells everyone that the Democratic Party is okay with illegal funneling of campaign contributions.

Nice try, but I think that the Democratic party trying to disassociate itself from corruption in North Carolina is like trying to say that there are two different colors of red in a ketchup bottle.

Not defending one way or the other...but the fine was not against NCDP per se but since the Easley campaign apparently "tainted" the funds by soliciting donors to give to the NCDP as a round-about way to give to the Easley campaign, there was no fine against anything the NCDP did, but since they had the "tainted" funds, then they had to give them up.

Not saying anything about any future revelations, but think Mr. Whalen's statement passes the "straight face" test.

Mr. Whalen apparently likes to spin.Once the investigation gets in full swing look for the fur to fly over the donations from wealthy Easley supporters to the NCDP.

The lead is "the head of the N.C. Democratic Party" but the statement is from the state party's executive director. Wouldn't "the head of the N.C. Democratic Party" be the state party chairman, David Young?

Oh Mark Johnson have you seen the news release that says it is NOT A TOWNHALL. Geezus mark, get your head out from where the sun don't shine, please! It is a fundraiser!

What is wrong with raising money? Both parties do it. I went to a fund raiser for Perdue last year, brought a check and didn't like what I heard and decided I wasn't going to vote for her. Well after that check cashed every Dem in the state started writing and calling for money. Repubs do the same but Dems went over the top.
Burr has visited our County on numerous times in the past few years. Walter Jones was here yesterday and met with our group for lunch. All you have to do is call their scheduler and be flexible with your time. Every politician I meet tell me they want to hear from the people in their district. I have never had a problem meeting with State or Fed elected officials and the same for Dems or Repubs. I don't buy their votes with a 50 dollar donation but I tell them thank you for serving and I also tell them when they are screwing up. (like the Dems are doing now). I always try never to talk policy at the same time as giving money. I learned that from Marc Basnight. There is time for both but they should be seperate.

Mr. Andrew "Wail'n" is really grasping for anything to attack Burr!

First of all, the flyer clearly states that this event is a fundraiser for the Wake County GOP, which means that Senator Burr is their invited guest.

2009 Take Back Our Town Halls Rally

Perhaps the Wake County Democratic Party should have a fundraiser to recruit a candidate to run against Burr...

Nevertheless, why does the N&O continue to post these sort of comments from Mr. "Wail'n", yet can not get him to offer a quote on the situation surrounding State Senator R.C. Soles or the broken campaign promises of Governor Beverly Perdue or the use of campaign funds from the NCDP to assist with the legal fees of former Governor Mike Easley!

Both parties suck but one sucks more than the other right now...the burden of proof is on the Democrat Party and the are truly crumbling before our eyes!

meschreiner - Perhaps we should collaborate and teach a class on the Constitution and require attendance by all elected officials as they seem to have forgotten the importance and obligation they have to uphold that document!

I've been looking in the N&O for days now, haven't seen an update or report of an arrest of the person who threatened Brad Miller's life. Isn't this what a gumshoe reporter is for?

Great Question?

Any response from the reporters at the N&O?
