OK, now I see what you were trying to say. Perhaps instead of saying "go up by 166,000 to 200,000 voters." it would have been clearer to say "go up between 166,000 and 200,000 voters."

You're misreading, or I was unclear.

It would have to go up by 166,000 to be up 25 percent or 200,000 to be up 30 percent.

Something is wrong with the math in this statement. To go up by 166,000 to 200,000 voters means that the previous turnout was only 34,000 voters!

Very interesting RTB. Thanks for doing the research instead of just taking the pundits word when it comes to the feasibility of Obama's plan.

Curious to see that black voters performed at about the same rate of their white counterparts in 2004. If you control for issues like income and education, I'd wager a bet that black voters outperform their white counterparts by a significant margin.

As an aside, it might be interesting to look at what % of these "game-changing" new Democratic registrations are African American.

I know it's easier to talk about "attacks," but I really liked the videos that a number of North Carolina's teachers posted at YouTube. They said nothing about any opponents, only focused on the good work that Bev Perdue has done on issues related to kids and schools.

If you didn't see them, Ryan, here's a little list of them.

And I noticed too that in her speech, the first folks she thanked were North Carolina's teachers.

early vote numbers for political junkies

Being a numbers junkie, I just analyzed the publicly available early voter file on the State Board of Elections website http://www.sboe.state.nc.us
The 6 am file now shows 470,808 early voters (up from the 10 pm Saturday posting of 466,396 on the State Board website, likely from some late reporting counties that are not online in real time but submit their files separately)

Here is a break out:
First table is by party affiliation of the voter (showing which primary the voter cast ballots in).
Second table shows the party primary the votes were cast in.
Third table shows which party unaffiliated voters voted in.

U in D means unaffiliated voter voted in Democratic Primary

U in R means unaffiliated voter voted in Republican Primary

U in U means unaffiliated voter did not vote in either party primary but asked for nonpartisan ballot (judges, local referenda, some nonpartisan local school board elections)

So how many voters did you speak with? Four? A dozen? A hundred? Your comment doesn't mean much without some context.
