Career politicians breed corruption and lies. Vote them out or they and their cronies either die in or retire from public office.

Option one....you win
Option two....you lose

Investigate Perdue?

MMMMMMMMM...could happen!

Perdue - never answers the question, never any follow up

Media: Do support healthcare reform? Perdue: I'm in New York

Media: Does this budget suit you? Perdue: Yes but I'll veto it anyway

Media: Will you release the Highway Patrol report on the Easley records? Perdue: Have you seen the organic garden first man Eaves has been busy growing?

Media: Do you believe Wilson should step aside? Perdue: Wow, did you know the sky is blue

Media: Is your hair blond? Perdue: Yes and no

How about actually talking to the woman and pinning her down, or is David Crabtree the only guy she'll talk to?

Wish I had so much money that I could write 100,000 in checks and not recall them.

So far a lot of the answers the last 2 days have been pretty sleazy.

Re: Wilson says party funneled checks

The state democratic party has some explaining to do also. Along with the leaders in the legislature and anyone appointed by Easley. This will be a long investigation unless the democrats stop it cold by convincing someone to plead guilty and take the punishment. They are going to throw Easley under the bus if they can to save their hides. And this all happened after the ethics reform was past. Boy, I am sure glad we had that passed, it sure made a difference. Looks like the democratic party may have to adopt an entire wing at central prison. I have not heard about any of the state democratic leadership standing up and screaming foul. I guess they are all at home auditing their own books and consulting with an attorney since this seems to be against the very laws they put in place.

Giggie is right!

This is one instance where Giggie is right!

Ben is wasting time on this Easley stuff. He should be following Richard Burr around seeing where he parks his "Thing." That's what real investigative journalism is about - parking spaces. Giggie is only trying to help.

Is the chef that cooked those $60.00 cheeseburgers being called to testify. Is there some type chef-client relationship that would preclude making the recipe public knowledge?

GiggleBox implies that N&O/Dome shouldn't provide thorough coverage of the SBOE investigations. Based on GB's post on this and other threads, the reason behind this sentiment seems to amount o nothing more than "These hearings make Democrats look bad."

Such reasoning demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of the rule of law. Nobody, regardless of political office or party affiliation, should be able to break the law and then receive special treatment. Anyone who suggests otherwise has taken the first step down a slippery slope that ends somewhere around Tehran.

Further, the public has a strong interest in having timely access to the details of an investigation involving several of the most powerful people in our state. The citizens of North Carolina deserve to know what shady acts were committed by their elected officials, and hopefully the citizens of NC will use that knowledge to end the corrupt practices that seem to be so deeply-ingrained in our political leadership.

While my personal preference is that we enact even more comprehensive ethics reform, greater disclosure, and stricter campaign limits in order to address corruption, I am aware that many people will see this corruption as mainly a problem of the party in power. Therefore, if the Democrats lose power in the legislature in 2010, they have no one to blame but their top dogs.

Re: Day 1 highlights

GiggleBox implies that N&O/Dome shouldn't thoroughly report on the SBOE proceedings. Perhaps this is because GB supports elected officials who commit crimes, or perhaps GB just thinks that bygones should be bygones and there's no sense in investigating corruption that has already occurred. Then again, maybe GiggleBox only thinks this way about certain individual politicians or politicians of a certain political party.

Under any scenario, such an attitude is reprehensible and demonstrates disdain for transparent, accountable government and contempt for honest public servants. It's kind of like spitting all over the entire state of North Carolina.

Can he share a prison with Jim Black and we get on with it?

Is the N&O's job here to make Republicans more palatable in spite of their efforts in the 90's? Go for it. Just endorse. Oh, you did. How'd that work out McClatchy? Say hey to Governor McCrory for us.
