Nice call Matt!

Submitted by MattM on August 26, 2008 - 4:10pm.

Larry Kissell got lucky back in '06, a lot of Hayes supporters stayed home figuring he already had it locked up. They'll be out this year. Kissell will have to settle back into his real job and stop pretending like he can be a Congressman.

...

Whoops, sorry to bump. Was looking for Matt's latest supporting that NFL guy, or maybe it was the DA that also passed.

A randomly selected housewife in the phonebook would be a better representative than Kissell.

Does the NRCC not have a phonebook?

to announce it's vote for Barack Obama

I know I like to pick on RTB for this sort of thing, but it's far more rewarding to catch the editor.

There hasn't been enough exploration done off the coast of NC to know just how much there is. At least Pat McCrory is actively in support of new solutions and not the same old recycled soundbites handed down from Hunt to Easley to Perdue.

Atnor, take the chip off your shoulder and the blinders off your eyes. Do you recall the election of 1990 in which Helms defeated Gantt? I do. Gantt was about to win, and make history as the first elected black U.S. Senator from North Carolina. In response, the desperate Helms campaign pulled out all the racist stops. Their infamous "white hands" ad showed a pair of hands crumpling a letter while a narrator read, "You needed that job--and you were the most qualified--but they had to give it to a minority." This raw, unapologetic race-baiting helped move enough votes to give the election to Helms. It was one of the most shameful political episodes in modern North Carolina history. I'm a white male southerner too, but I haven't blinded myself to the realities of our political history. Easley is absolutely right and on-point to praise Obama's political rise and win here as the continuation of a comeback from the grimmer side of our past, specifically including the shameful Helms campaign in 1990.

Forgive me for opposing both Gantt and Obama for their political positions. I thought I was making a decision based on policy stands, but being a white guy, apparently I was promoting racial division. But hey, I'm a white guy from "the South", so I guess everyone expects racial voting from me and my ilk. Many also probably think I oppose Hillary because she's a woman. The idea that their race or gender should have anything to do with whether someone votes for them, or that the two have anything to do with each other that would cause "a score" to be settled, is sad. The governor should know better. Want to transcend race and improve race relations? Stop making statements like that.
