Congressman McIntyre is talking the talk for a green agricultural policy in this nation. The green economy includes agricultural practices, of course, and I'm glad we are spreading the word to other nations that we are a "waste not, want not," kind of people.

In my campaign for the NC Senate Dist. 15 that covers North Raleigh and Wake Forest, and which is mostly urban, I hope to bring the same kind of smart approach to innovate ways to make our economy green and prosperous. Saving our environment should be an opportunity, not a sacrifice, if we take it on like Rep. McIntyre does in regard to smart agricultural production.

I wonder how the enviro-nitwits feel about the Obama admin loaning $2Billion to Brazil's state-owned oil company to drill off their coast?

I guess greenhouse gasses are only bad in the US. I mean, why would we use our own oil and gas reserves in the Rocky Mountains and off our coasts. Its not like we need inexpensive energy or jobs or anything silly like that.

I can find a way to save money in the state energy office -- cut Seth Effron, former Easley Flack, who was hidden in that office a few weeks ago. They don't need a pio in this budget crisis -- cut his position and use the money for something more worthy. The list of more worthy positions would be great, because just about anything or anyone is more worthy of this Easley pawn.

"Should a Cabinet appointee oversee military affairs?" No.

Military jobs are no more important to N.C. than work in any other industry, and one could argue that other employers with accountability to the state and local communities would be more beneficial in the long term.

Public Education is a Public Good

Some of the comments on this blog reveal the ignorance of the commenters. Public education is what economists refer to as a public good. It provides societal benefits to all whether or not you personally send your kids to public school. We all benefit from an educated workforce, etc. If you doubt that, go move to a country with a largely uneducated population and see how much you like it, and notice the lack of standard of living. If you choose to send your kids to private school, that's your choice but as a society we all still need to pay for public schools, since public schools are a government responsibility. You don't pay public school tuition specifically for your child so there is no rebate to be had if you decide not to send your child to public school. Private schools are a privilege for the elites who can afford it. And even if you send your kids to private school, you still benefit from having others in public school. McCrory is selling a bill of good with his "special needs" nonsense - this is a sham! Private schools generally cherry pick the richest or best students. They are not going to meet the "special needs" - this requires even more cost, and the public schools have to deal with this given that they are free and open to all. So, rather than gut public schools by using tax money for private schools, we should spend the money wisely on public schools for the benefit of all.

The NC State Constitution requires publicly funded schools:
Sec. 2. Uniform system of schools.
(1) General and uniform system: term. The General Assembly shall provide by taxation and otherwise for a general and uniform system of free public schools, which shall be maintained at least nine months in every year, and wherein equal opportunities shall be provided for all students.

What about the $90 million in vouchers that Beverly has successfully supported for students to attend private colleges in NC? McCrory has never said across the board vouchers. He said he supported them for those that had special needs. Don't you think parents should be able to take some of their tax dollars to get an education when you have schools that are failing to provide their kids an education.
