IS LAWRENCE WELK A COMMIE?

Pradeepscool says: "This proves that you don't have to attend Rev. Wright's church...Obama goofed!"

Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. But Oprah's actions, if they happened as stated, prove nothing. In this case, A plus B doesn't necessarily equal C.

The logic here is no more valid than to say that Lawrence Welk is "proved" to have been a communist sympathizer because he played "Red Sails in the Sunset" and "Red Roses for a Blue Lady."

In sum: Belief multiplied by disdain does not equal fact.

Call the next case!

Please refer to:

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/05/06/the-early-word-decision-day/#more-5022

"Oprah Winfrey, the talk show host and Obama supporter, left Mr. Obama’s Trinity United Church of Christ after two years of being a parishioner, Newsweek says, for a host of reasons including her discomfort with the harsh tone of the sermons of Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr."

This proves that you don't have to attend Rev. Wright's church for 20 years to figure out that the pastor's sermons are way out of line! Obama goofed! He shows bad judgment! All the Obama supporters have to accept that!

Re: Mixed reviews on positive Perdue

Perdue's motives seems a little suspect to me. It takes a while to shoot, edit, and produce television commercials. If she had one ready saying she's going to stop the negative ads, it must have been finished long before she announced she was actually going to stop.

So it seems to me the whole thing was a ploy, or at least a pre-meditated tactic...

Of course voters should decide who they want to vote for by their actual policies and what they would do in office, but that's a different blog post altogether.

Re: Moore on seniors' taxes

It's nice that the Treasurer wants to give a tax break for seniors that will cost the local governments, which will in turn cause everybody - including seniors - to pay more property taxes. Remember, there is no state property tax, so the Treasurer is basically touting a tax cut that won't cost the state any revenue but will make all the cities and counties lose revenues and cut services or raise taxes to make up for the lost revenues.

I guess he's saying that Orr shouldn't have endorsed anyone, seeing as how one could make a similar statement about Huckabee.

Ok so you expect a Republican candidate for governor to endorse a Democrat for president?

After years of being seen as a independent-minded thinker, Orr's run for the roses has brought out the man's worst qualities. His desire to continue the disastrous rein of Republican incompetence in Washington is mind-boggling.

John McCain - aka Bush III - is the last thing this nation needs, and Bob Orr's publicity stunt doesn't change that one bit.

Yeah if a politician mentions funding, then he/she must be one of them crazy spendthrifts! We need to put guys like Fred Smith in office to point out that those "avoidable" diseases are something the afflicted miscreants deserve to have. Hey buddy, we're down with your code! We "get" it.

Where do we get these morons? It's sad that what isn't "avoidable" are pinheads like Smith who mouth platitudes in the face of serious social issues, and bird-brains who cheer him on.

Silly goose. Don't you know virtually ALL diseases are "avoidable" not just the ones you think only "bad" people contract.

Dole: 287(g) not the only way: Well Duh Huh

While certainly glad that Bowles is not in her place, considering he wants to give illegal aliens instate tuition, I wish Libby and Burr were more outspoken on this issue. With perhaps 400,000 illegal alien criminals roaming our state it's time we got officials in at the local, state, and federal level that will act on initiatives similar to Oklahoma, Arizona, and Georgia that will force our unwelcome guests to go home. Hopefully Wake and Harnett County will join in soon because certain parts of Fuquay and Raleigh look to be occupied territory.

Re: Dole: Health care bill hurts tobacco

Sen. Elizabeth Dole has taken a politically courageous position against the runaway commodity-taxing train as the first-resort vehicle for general policy financing, in this case, health care. Two Democratic members of North Carolina's congressional delegation also held to this position for a certain period of time but have recently moved to the other side of the political lineup on this issue.

Public policies ought to be financed through appropriate, constitutional revenue allocations, and these general revenue allocations should not be exclusively commodity-specific but broadly derived from the entire system of public finance whether at the federal or state level.

The proximity of many ideologically fortified political interest groups in the Triangle region notwithstanding, Raleigh is nonetheless the capital of the entire state of North Carolina, and the people of this state should not agree to the targeting of the economy of one single state--or two if you include the annual tobacco manufacturing yields of Kentucky and North Carolina--as the only source of revenue for funding important general-purpose public policy initiatives including even the urgent area of children's health.

Sapping the economy of its fundamental strength, whether across-the-board nationally or in certain states, regions or localities in particular, is a penny-wise, pound-foolish methodology. Much better to meet fiscal responsibilities for public policy financing with a full team of horses rather than with the reins to a single plow-horse.
