And don't forget: Titan has apparently just been named in a federal lawsuit re: price-fixing. Dig deeper into this one, folks....

Always seemed a little strange that Roy Cooper fights TVA pollution from other states but does nothing about the hog pollution in North Carolina. Anyone checked his flight records during campaign times?

As for Titan, I cannot not imagine what those New Hanover county commissioners are thinking. Are they trying to destroy the area?

Seems only right since Cooper is fighting the TVA to reduce air pollution from the west to not allow further discovery into a company that wants to build the fourth largest cement plant in the US here in Wilmington.

Not only will they discharge mercury and other dust particulates into the air we breathe they will be pumping 7-10 million gallons of fresh water out of the Castle Hayne aquifer daily into the Cape Fear River.

Many people in New Hanover County rely on this aquifer for their daily water supply........Titan will not only benefit by using natural resources that they will pay no royalties for but in addition they will be destroying the aquifer that thousands of people in North Carolina depend on for fresh water. On top of that Titan will be pumping toxics into injection wells possibly as far down as the Pee Dee aquifer.

On top of all this it should be noted that the New Hanover County Commissioners held private meetings with Titan for three years before announcing that they were going to offer Titan 4.2 million dollars in incentives( taxpayer monies) to come here and rape New Hanover County. Titan isn't even an American company, folks!

Re: Budget: Natural and Economic Resources

Six hours from Wrightsville Beach to West Jefferson, MAYBE (if you don't hit rush hour traffic).
Six hours from Manteo to Murphy? NEVER. Try eight. Or try eleven if you start in Ocracoke. Maybe twelve if Dumplin isn't much of a camel.

The state government should have a plane for use by our Governor and other top state officials for (truly) official business; from RDU, what other NC cities (save CLT) can be reached by direct flights? Should the Gov. have to spend all day in the car every time she wants to leave the I-85/40 corridor?

However, I acknowledge that in this exact moment, it is probably better to sell it. Nevertheless, I assert that fire-selling capital assets makes more political sense than economic sense.

* Require the Department of Commerce to sell the state's King Air plane and reduce all costs associated with operating it, including a pilot position, to save $148,000 this year and $296,000 next year.

Is this HER plane that she flies all over in or just A plane that she will do away with.

I have no respect for her if she has still kept a plane to use when it takes 6 hours to travel from west to east!

I have always been told that the Outer Banks are constantly shifting, so how on earth could one deduct whether the sea is rising? Help me, I'm confused.

how about scientifically managing the coast and not the perception of the coast. What if everyone "believes" it is happening. Are they going to tell us it is not? I "believe" I have lost my confidence that they are properly managing the resource and are instead managing their image.

Since I've never read where one of these sites has cut loose with a pending disaster on the populace to date, would assume that Bev is going to recommend that the same guys that have been watching over all the Hog Waste Lagoons will be in charge of this going forward. Now we can sleep easy at night.

Maybe something is wrong with the system if someone is willing to cough up and extra $200,000 just for expediting the process. As most departments of government, there is too much duplication and never any incentive to move things along a little faster since most of these employees never had to pay interest costs or any other expenses while waitng for approval.

Re: Whither the State Energy Office?

I can find a way to save money in the state energy office -- cut Seth Effron, former Easley Flack, who was hidden in that office a few weeks ago. They don't need a pio in this budget crisis -- cut his position and use the money for something more worthy. The list of more worthy positions would be great, because just about anything or anyone is more worthy of this Easley pawn.

Predator State: Defined By James K. Gailbraith

the Predator State is a coalition of relentless opponents of the very idea of a “public interest”, whose purpose is to master the state structure in order to empower a high plutocracy with nothing more than vile and rapacious goals.

Look closely at the flow of money in state gummint: In the front door from the taxpayers, out the back door to profit obsessed corporations.

So they laid off some 1,200 temporary workers. What about the 2,400 full time workers whose job it was to keep the 1,200 temparary workers looking busy?
