As a Democrat, I give the Civitas folks points for their humor and creativity. But umm...where are the black people in the video? The high tech center is planned for North Carolina A & T University, an HBCU.

Not to expose my geekiness to the world, but the original Star Trek series was groundbreaking for a number of reasons, especially its multiracial cast. They went where no television show went before. Uhura was an integral part of the series and an inspiration for future communications directors. Uhura and James T. Kirk's kiss was the first interacial kiss on television.

I don't know about going private with the ABC stores. It might do well but I would fear the good ol' boy network. Next thing you know they would be telling us they couldn't afford to keep selling liquor in North Carolina and we would have to subsidize the drunks even further.

But I'd like to see the DOT go private. Bidding their work out would save a bundle. But yet again there is that good ol' boy network waiting in the wings to pounce on these type opportunities.

Public patronage may be better than the lurking around of the good ol' boy network. So let's just drink our cares away at a liquor tasting at let somebody else worry about it.

P.S. I don't know about the other parts of the state but some of the liquor stores down east are some pretty nasty places. Sorta drab and not the place to be "tasting liquor." Could they set up tents or hold the tasting parties at the country club?

A former buddy of mine down at Bragg raised beagles for a few years, and there was nothing funnier than watching a bunch of beagle puppies sharing a big dogfood bowl, eating and growling at the same time. :)

The North Carolina beer excise tax was last changed in 1969 and has lost 83% of its value. If the tax had kept pace with inflation, instead of $0.53 per gallon, it would now be $3.11 per gallon

You're missing one of the larger Facebook groups dedicated to an NC General Assembly bill: North Carolina State Sovereignty Movement has 849 members and is devoted "to convince the NC General Assembly to adopt a resolution declaring NC a sovereign state, under the 10th Amendment."

The corresponding legislation is HR 849, State's Right to Claim Sovereignty Over Certain Powers Under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States

I'm sorry you missed her recent coverage of potential wind farms off the coast, a bill to regulate predatory lending, Sen. Burr's campaign finances or a Durham architect with a major federal commission.

Wow, four columns in one month. She's almost a good church going Catholic with that record.

Barb is a great reporter, a regular contributor to Dome and a constant presence on the front page of the N&O. Even if there were other reporters from North Carolina up in D.C., I'd still consider her the best we've got.
