I too am concerned with an organization that realtors are required to join if they want the benefits of calling themselves a "Realtor", only to find that the organization is going to assess you for political reasons. It burns me up to think that legislators have to be lobbied by professional lobbyist in order for people to be heard. To me, a lobbyist is just a middleman to offer legislators bribes, as in our group will vote for you if you will do so and so, I'm sick of politicians not listening to their constituents unless the liason is paid to speak to them.........we vote, they should listen without a lobbyist but back to the NCAR.......they should not assess anyone for political reasons, their job is to function as the professional branch for licensees who want to become better at the job.
I think everyone can speak for themselves, there's already RPAC, if there's not enough money in RPAC coffers, too bad, forget it. Sooner or later sellers and buyers will learn that realtors are here to help them and that government affects their wallets as well as realtors.

The MLS is the only place to find out about homes for sale?

These people have apparently not heard of realtor.com, Trulia, Zillow, or other sites where one can find out about homes for sale.

What's missing from the other sites is an understood offer of compensation. That is inconvenient, but not an unsurmountable obstacle.

While we're complaining...EVERY NC Real Estate Broker should be embarrassed that our state HQ building sports the name of one of the MOST CORRUPT NC democrackkks, TONY RAND, D-Cumberland from Fayetteville.

EVERY NC Broker should complain to the NCREC directors to REMOVE it from our state HQ on Navajo Dr immediately.

The upshot: unions may not compel members to participate (including financially) in political activity they disagree with. Workers are allowed to partake in the collective bargaining function of unions without being required to endorse the political practice.

Thanks Ms. Harper for addressing this in this manner.

How can we get all the NC Real Estate Brokers to DEMAND the name of Tony Rand OFF the NCREC bldg on Navajo Drive? He is an INSULT to all NC real estate brokers with his recent manipulation of the annexation bill.
All real estate licensees should contact the NCREC 'leadership' to demand this action NOW! Send them an email!

Why is there no mention as to the amount of tax payer dollars that the state is spending on their campaign for the tax? I believe the state has spent about twice as much as the Realtors.

I believe the politicians should trim the fat and run our state like a business. If the revenue is not there, cut somewhere else. This is a TAX that will ultimately be passed on to the homeowner in the form of a higher sales price. I believe the tax payers have sent a loud message on this issue - WE DO NOT WANT IT!

It's not the realtors they fear, it's the 86% of voters who oppose the transfer tax that they are afraid of. And rightly so.

The days of ironclad control by Raleigh over counties and cities in North Carolina are coming to a slow and painful close. Each cycle brings more demands from people who have to make government work at the local level - and more evidence that the General Assembly is strangely disconnected from reality.

When it comes to fiscal issues, local governments face the pain and should have more flexibility to address their issues. Citizens of towns and counties should have the right to vote on more options for local revenue. If, as the realtors claim, they won't approve such options, so be it.

(When it comes to so-called values issues, I see it slightly differently. In those instances, the majority has the potential to subvert the rights and freedoms of the minority and the bar should be much higher.)

By the way, Mr. Woodho, taxpayers aren't working any months a year to pay taxes. They're working to pay for services that, at least theoretically, contribute to the common good. I agree with you that certain expenditures do NOT contribute to the common good, and that there is a fair amount of frivolous spending. For example, Mr. Fred Smith's companies have taken in many millions of dollars in state highway spending that effectively subsidize the sprawl lobby (read: Realtors).

They should be scared of the taxpayers who are sick of working 6 months a year to pay, federal state and local taxes.
