The league leads my representative around on a pound puppy leash. I hope they wake him up so he will vote to keep annexation. They are real impressed with him.

Against their will..........

"The bill was drafted in response to long-festering anger over municipalities' ability to annex property owners against their will."

We need to get off this business......worrying about the will of the people! "The will of the people" is an outdated concept in modern governance. The "people" don't have any lobbyists so they obviously have no "right" to be heard in matters of government. If the "people" were truly interested in what government was doing then they would hire lobbyists.

Annex them, tax them, kick them around. They probably won't even notice.

"The will of the people".......give me a break!

Insane, I know. The Commission approved funding the theater -- 21.5 million dollars -- without having access to information that Moore had on the (questionable) feasibility of the project to generate enough revenue. It doesn't pass the "red face test" when Moore claims this was out of scope and they didn't need to consider the feasibility study -- just ability to pay! Duh - well, ability to pay -- doesn't that hinge upon... ummm... FEASIBILITY of the project?!! The dome pundits have missed the boat on this one.

wHAT ABSOLUTE HORSE-HOCKEY. For anyone to pretend that something was witheld, or in some meaningful sense, "not disclosed" when the study was something NEVER before submitted much less ASKED FOR by the local government commission respponsible, ultimately, for the decision on whether to move on this proposal, is the heighth of hypocrisy and studied ignorance.

Find an issue grounded in reality, if you really believe in your candidate. If you really believe in your candidate, can't you do that much?

The point is not that Moore is willing to share the feasibility study NOW, but that he did not share it when the Commission was considering the funding or voting on the project. It's even more fishy because was the chair of the commission! Of course he's all for "full disclosure" now that he is running for Governor...

Overstated?

Leave it to the Dome to badly miss the entire and only point of this whole sad story. Perdue's challenge isn't about the merits of the study or the criteria the LGC used. It's simply about full disclosure of information. One person (Moore) had certain information when the Commission voted, the others didn't.

The N&O's conclusion that the Perdue "over-reached" is absurd. The proper conclusion would have been: Moore "under-delivered."

Excellent!!! BARBARA HELMS HOWE is a true American patriot who should have been elected governor.

Remember that the governor with zero integrity, Sleazely, kept her from debating last time. Sleazely is a total embarrassment to us all.

Hi, I'm a long-time Dome reader, but this is my first comment.

So, explain something to me here. How can commission members be expected to fairly "decide whether the project has a good chance of success", if they haven't seen the results of the feasibility study? Wasn't it Mr. Moore's responsibility as head of the commission to fully disclose everything he knew about this, so that the decision could be made after ALL facts were considered? Why didn't he?

Re: A visit from Richard Moore

After perusing the websites referred to in the dome blog articles, I am now completely disgusted with both Moore and Perdue.

As these candidates are very well aware, the REAL goal of negative campaigning is to keep people from going to the polls at all.

Yes, that's right--the goal of these candidates is to influence people to give up their CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY as free citizens of a democratic society.

In my book, that makes negative campaigning a sort of civic terrorism.

Negative campaigning is especially offensive to young new voters. The kids who had just started highschool when 9-11 happened haven't yet had a chance to vote in gubernatorial or presidential elections. So perhaps for the first time, these kids are tuning in--and THIS is what they find????

Of course candidates don't really want younger folks to vote, because they are an unknown--they don't know HOW they will vote--so they are secretly pleased to turn them away. Making negative campaigning Civic Terrorism of the Next Generation.

The NC Democratic Party should put the lid on all this, because this sort of intra-party mud-slinging weakens the entire party, because voters end up thinking, I don't want EITHER of these two. (This is especially true of younger voters.) If the state party doesn't reign them in, then it too is guilty of this civic terrorism.

(Before someone comments on why this is a reason to vote Republican--the Republican party is even MORE guilty of using negative campaign tactics--which is why this independent voter started tuning them out long ago.)

The bottom line is that our Democracy, and Our Kids, deserves better that this political campaign crap.

Why is everybody picking on Stella's brother Randy?
He was on his way to making RR look and sound so dandy.

The N&O said he went and "took" funds of a certain amount
From that fair city east of Gov. Easley's Rocky Mount.

But this was something business folks refer to as salary,
Which is as legit as an '80s jump shot by Mark Alarie.

And say, "Hark the Sound of Tar Heel voices,"
What Carolina crooners are there among our choices

For filling in on stage at the Theater Parton,
Famous also because it rhymes with Barton,

Home of that basketball team that surprised the Nation
And left folks by Wilson's oaks jumping with jubiliation.

It takes a while, when you're start up a new music show,
To build a crowd that will fill the aisles row by row.

After all, when I play fiddle on the street in Raleigh,
I've been known to draw three or four people, by golly!

So to all the good folks in the know over in Double-R,
Give us a chance to come bearing tickets from afar.

To help put this theater on a more solid foundation
For the winter, spring and summer months' duration.

Ask not what your country rock band can do for you,
Ask who can sing Willie's "Crying in the Rain" with eyes blue.

And remember, we may not have East Tennessee's Rockytop,
But we do have our own Chowan County's Rockyhock.

"Wish that I was up in Rockyhock, up by Eden-ton,
"They grow good pumpkins there and y'all should go try one.

"Rockyhock, you'll always be--home sweet home to me,
"Good old Rockyhock, up there in Northeastern N.C."

And if you think these rhymes are cornier than most,
Just wait 'till you read the next poet's post!

David Proctor McKnight
Durham

[Played fiddle on Stella Parton's USO tour of Germany in the 1980s.]
