You can appreciate, I'm sure, that without knowing a person or his/her background well, one could not readily assume that s/he is being sarcastic on such a subject.

And anyway, I think ya stuck it in here to rile up some traffic from your more reliable die-hard Southerners in here.

Apologies. She's parroting the line of argument that she's attacking. It's meant ironically, or at least sarcastically.

Confusing excerpts, RTB

I'm not entirely sure from the excerpts whether it is the Florida professor or Kromm of the Institute of Southern Studies or perhaps someone either might be addressing who who seems to indicate that the South can be defined by its stereotypes, but that's the impression I get when I hear derisive references to an "anti-education" outlook and Jesse Helms. I've been as critical of Helms as anyone else, but the suggestion that he actually despised universities, labs or libraries or that Southerners don't "cotton to book learning" tells me that the commenter is more interested in dwelling in stereotypes than serious contemplation of what the South is, was or is becoming.

It reminds me a little bit of African Americans being told they aren't "black" if they don't speak a certain jargon or hold a specific political perspective. It isn't that a given person isn't African American (or that North Carolina isn't in the South); it's that the person making that suggestion is him or herself lacking in perception of what it means to be an African American or what it means to be part of the South.

The quotation marks around the text in blue suggest that those are the remarks being quoted from Kromm. Is the final paragraph in blue (which is not contained in quotation marks) from Roberts?

The GOP is blessed

Clearly, God favors the GOP becuse he has provided them such outstanding models of intellect and insight as FFC and Tangoz (Paul Terrell III).

One can only envy the swell of party pride a John Hood or Carter Wrenn must feel upon reading comments from either of their aforementioned brethren.

One can only pity comedy writers, whose skill for parody is so far outmatched by the genuine extremes represented by these characters.

The doors we are knocking on belong to strong Democrats, sporadic Democrats, all Unaffiliated voters, and Republicans who have signed up - of which there are a lot.

The difference between the Republicans and the Democrats are that Republicans are looking at all the voters and the Democrats are narrwoly focused on getting out the traditional Democratic vote.

Why start a rumor? He has hard-working offices all over the state. He's identified every potential voter in the state and is knocking on their doors. When GOTV starts every house will be visited up to 3 times until they vote.

THAT, is not leaving the state.

This is just another racist repoblican trick that the "Corporate Media" will not cover in fear they will lose their place on the 'Straight-Talk Express' bus of 'Fellower-Travelers'.

Yup. The idea that this kind of event can be planned at the last minute is crazy. Jerry Meek would have a lot of explaining to do if he weren't trying to get this thing organized by this time.

Perhaps they're moving forward because that's the only way these things ever get done. Candidates and campaigns are notoriously unreliable when it comes to scheduling of any kind.

As someone who has organized candidate forums before, I'll tell you that bouncing times and dates off of these campaigns will just force you in to an endless loop of "how about thursday at 10 am?" "No, how about noon?" "Well, the congressman can't make 3:30" and on and on.

If you just pick a time that is reasonable and one candidate agrees to it, the other will come around. The prospect of that classic photo of your opponent standing next to an empty chair is reason enough for the dithering campaign to agree to a date.
