does anything ever come of most of the investigations besides a little pat on the wrist?

Black, Wright, the cooking of the books of the Black Caucus, and now this. Anyone just want to change the states name to North Louisiana at this rate?

What? No criminal charges? The more as a society that we put our politicians in jail for the crimes they commit the better the system will be for all. Politicians should be held to higher standards.

If it had not been for Joe Sinshiemer NONE od the corruption in Raleigh would have never seen the light of day. It's time for him to look at the SENATE leadership now.

Joe Sinshiemer RULES!!! He should be further honored for all his efforts!

100+ years of democrackkk oppression in NC is quite enough! If you are a citizen who continues to vote for nasty NC democrackkks then YOU are a traitor to our once great state!

Wow, the Jim-Black-Must-Go guy has really racked up the honors! First, he gets a free speech award from the North Carolina Press Association and now he has won kudos from Mssrs. Pearce and Wreen.

Never mind that the rank-and-file North Carolinian can now begin to recognize, through court transcripts and other documents, that all these "pile-on charges" against Jim Black--the ones added to the actual campaign law violation involving the transfer of unreported funds from a chiropractors group--have simply not been substantiated.

And here's something else for the Raleigh Punditry Society to crow about: even though the campaign funds violation took place at an International House of Pancakes in Salisbury, a Wake County judge is forcing Dr. Black to come up with $1 million--with all of it being directed to the Wake County schools and none of it to the Rowan County schools. You don't have to be from the Piedmont to see the impropriety of this million-dollar diversion scheme, for you can see that whether you're right next door in Johnston County or just up the road in Nash or Edgecombe counties, this whole "penalty" is giving Wake schools a $1 million advantage over the school districts in the all the other 99 counties of North Carolina. Would the Wake school offices like maple or raspberry syrup with this sumptuous political dish?

The N&O always spotlights the people making the accusations, whether they have the facts on their side or not. There's never a piece on the folks who try to come to someone's defense if they feel that individual has been unjustly accused. Et tu, Brutus, "The News & Accuser?"

I recently read that Rep. McAllister receives more than $115,000 in annual salary from Operation Sickle Cell for her part-time role as Executive Director of the organization. Given her weak performance under pressure before the State Board of Elections, I question her credentials as the director of anything. And, I find it somewhat disturbing that members of the NC General Assembly would appropriate money to a non-profit for which a fellow member is a salaried employee? Is this not a blatant example of a legislator using political office for personal gain? I've also read that Rep. McAllister’s son is on Operation Sickle Cell’s payroll with a salary of $50,000 per year. I wonder what percentage of Operation Sickle Cell’s annual budget goes toward the salaries of Rep. McAllister and her son? This really reeks and should be thoroughly investigated. As a taxpayer I am outraged.

The duties and responsibilities of the state auditor are listed here in the state statutes. His role in auditing nonprofits that receive state money is described here.

What exactly are the responsibilities of the auditor? Does he get to investigate anyone that does any business with the state? Does he get to just pick and choose what he wants to look at?

Does anyone find it weird that he has such high profile investigations of big news stories? Does anyone else find it incredibly questionable that the auditor had his own ethic problems earlier this year?

Re: More on McAllister

She is paid over $100,000 per year for doing nothing from her so-called non-profit which is funded by our tax dollars. These types of nonprofits are everywhere and are funded to get community leaders in certain communities to help deliver that community vote to the
Democrats. In other words, buying votes with your tax dollars. The non-profit corporations and organizations do not make a profit, but are profitable indeed to those at the helm. These things are everywhere and are a disgrace and a major rip off. I challenged the N&O to do a followup in a few years on a story they did about a nonprofit set up by a lady to help low income families get housing. If they will go look at that and all others like it, they will find that if they took the total dollars run through the organization and divide it by the number of houses built, they could have bought the poor folks houses at the Governors Club in Chapel Hill. Don't expect the Democrat leadership to do anything about it because it is in their interes to keep it going.
