Re: No action likely on schools law

I can see why many NC students perform poorly. After all these years of statehood and we still can't figure out who is running the schools. This should have been worked out during Reconstruction by the latest.

Who is "standing up for the children?" Who is "fightin' for education?" Who is "protectin' the classroom?"

I just wanted to say that when this thing happened to Mrs. Atkinson, I, (like everyone else) could see thhat something was amiss. But God was watching too!!! I prayed hard for her. I'm happy with the outcome. Mrs. Atkinson, "Continue to do your thing". Juana Mangum, Fayetteville, NC

Bev needs to step down for incompetence immediately. NC deserves better than this kind of CRAP!

WHY does Harrison not go ahead and leave now? Why wait til end of Aug? No need...be gone now!

Yes it does. This whole mess exemplifies politics!

Voters elect a person to do the job, the gov appoints another to do the job, a court case and now a resignation.

Seems to me to be a bit of confusion. I hope the students aren't too worried about all this because the state's education program is in good hands.........LOL.

Beverly caused ltd focus on kids with lawsuit

I believe that Beverly is the one that caused the legal dispute by appointing Harrison over Atkinson, who was elected in a statewide vote. As a result, Beverly is admitting that the focus since she was inaugurated has NOT been on our kids or the classroom but instead on dealing with the lawsuit. Thanks for nothing Beverly!

but what about Gov's existing ed adviser and Howard Lee?

I'm not suggesting Atkinson, Harrison, Lee, and the teacher who's the Governor's education adviser are necessarily duplicative, but I am curious how they all fit together. Lee's an Executive Officer for the Governor who makes $130K/year and supposedly focuses on the State Board/Education Cabinet. I'm not questioning his efficacy when he was SBE Chair, but what's the role now? Does anyone know? Does he work with/for Harrison?

Name:	HOWARD LEE
Title:	EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Salary:	$130,000
Department:	GOVERNOR OFFICE
Division:
Appointment Type:	FULL-TIME
County:	WAKE

Between the two it comes to $389,000......hope y'all are paying attention and remember when the new taxes come due. It might also help to remember a little of this come election time.

Career politicians breed corruption and lies. Vote them out or they and their cronies die in office.

Option one....you win
Option two....you lose

The Fix was in?

Let us get this straight! The Judge was or is a Republican? And the lawyer for June is a Republican [ Sponge Bob], who is on the payroll of the [John Locke Foundation, Art Pope's political toy], who owns the Republican Party lock, stock and barrel plus the mainstream media in this state.......So why are you suprise at this outcome?

Praises to June Atkinson and her legal counsel for allowing her to keep her position. During her tenure, she kept the people in our system informed with weekly e-mails of the latest news. When William Harrison was appointed, June Atkinson continued the weekly information. Many of us have heard nothing from him.
Wondering if this means some of the elected officials will begin actually listening to the voters--sometimes I wonder if certain elected officials have forgotten the term, "representative of the people."

This case is just further proof that absolute power corrupts absolutely.

No, this sentence is just further proof that Absolut corrupts Absolut-ly.

Another question I haave [sic] is did the Attorney General's Office provede [hiccup] all parties Attorneys in this case as Lacy Thornburg as Attorney General had all attorneys hired by state assigned to his office as a political move against Gov. Jim Martin so as elected NC officials Bev and June should have both [deep breath] been assigned a state attorney but if both work for the Attorney General would this not create a conflict.

Dude, it's puff, puff, pass. Not puff, puff, post.
