I'll ask my own inland insurance agent what this really means to me, an inland resident vs. what I read in this article.

Then, I'll decide what misfits in the GA to recommend voting out.

Terrible Bill. The only winners are the insurance companies. Eastern NC will be paying about 300% more than the standard rate and insurance companies reduced their liability, Inland policy holders shouldn't worry about assessments, Historical data shows it will never happen and the most the assessments would be are around $60 per year if it did. Maybe the Senate will have more sense than the House. And remember one more time, this is not about the beach but about the 18 coastal counties as far west as Columbia, Camden, Eliz City, Beaufort, a 2hour drive from the beach.

Re: Beach Plan in time for the 4th?

You don't get it. We are tired of subsidizing you. The insurance industry is raping the 18 coastal counties charging us 3 to 4 times what the rate is inland and then discounting policies inland. 74% of the wind damage claims over the past twenty years are the inland counties. No one has told you how they took the money year after year and never built up the reserves and now are crying poverty. What they have done is start a territory war. Insurance is based on spreading the risk. That means the clean up after Hazel, Hugo and Floyd. There has not been a hurricane in 5 years so what have they done with the money? I will tell you that a big chunk has gone to lobbyists and PR firms to spread the lies that you are believing. I am not a rich coastal owner. I paid 100K for my house in 1991, the insurance was $600 and now it is $4000 and they want 22% more. I leave 10 miles from the coast.I work for a living and getting tired of being referred to as a rich beach house owner. This argument is not about living at the beach, it is about living in Columbia or Elizabeth City or Little Washington or New Bern. It is not about the Oceanfront. Get your facts straight

I live 5 miles from the coast......my insurance premium went up 45%.......homes on the beach had a 17.5% increase.......now they want to add 10% to my insurance bill to cover those who own ocean side properties.

I agree let's see the list of political whores who own property on the beach.

"Other controversial items in the bill are a reduction of the coverage limits of Beach Plan homeowners policies from $1.5 million to $750,000 and an increase in the premiums paid by Beach Plan customers."

The state's working class families should share in the premiums paid by those owning oceanfront homes. Look how much pleasure the poor people get on their day trips down to the beach. The poor get to ride by and marvel at these oceanfront homes and sometimes even see the rich people sitting on the porch. The rich do not even charge you to ride by! We should have to pay!

This is absolutely ridiculous. You live at the beach, your insurance should be sky high. If you can't afford it, too bad; you just shouldn't live at the beach.

I live 300 miles from the beach, and I only get to go once every two years; why in the hell should I pay for a mix of perennially vacationing New yorkers and Down Easters who've gotten too big for their bright leaf britches if their vacation house is leveled by nature's big bad wolf?

I hope the GA can tell Basnight to hold on to his Outer Banks Argyles.

Copays

Reducing the copay on chiropractic vists is probably a good idea. And I wish they would add palm readers. My palm reader, Madame King, is excellent and is descended from European royalty. My insurance company does not recognize her yet but maybe the legislature will change that.

Re: Insurance premiums could rise

How many of the members of the NC Rate Bureau, the NC State Representatives/Legislators,Jim Long and Wayne Godwin, their employees, other top NC Government Officials, and the Beach Planning Board are wealthy enough to own property or can afford to go the NC coast for more than a day? When you own/buy property at any coast you know you are taking a risk with the property and you agree to pay a higher insurance premium. Keep raising "their" premiums, property taxes, even sales tax in the coastal counties. They evidently can afford it. Many of us could not even afford the gas or have a vehicle to go the distance. I'd like to take my vote for Insurance back.

Re: A brief history of the N.C. driver's license

I am a NC drivers license holder. I was trapped for 90 in a 60 while
driving in SC. The magistrate stated that I could plead no contest,
the points would not show up on my NC license, and the penalty would
be reduced to 4 points (which did not affect me, he said). 4 points
is 'over 15 mph over but under 25 mph over.' I took this bargain.
That was August of 2002.

The violation never appeared on my NC license, and likewise never
showed up on my NC insurance through any consumer groups of any kind.
I have even changed insurance carriers since then.

I have accepted a full time position in SC starting late January,
2004. I could live in either SC or NC due to the job's location. I
would prefer SC, as the taxes are slightly less, cost of living is
less, etc. However, whether I live in SC or not largely depends on
the situation about the ticket.

My question is whether I will recieve a SC drivers license with the SC
violation on it, even though I was a NC driver when the violation
occured. If so, will the violation be accompanied by the 4 points.
If this is the case, how could that affect my insurance? I plan on
celebrating my employment fresh out of college with an expensive car,
so insurance will already be a little high. I would love for it not
to be higher. How long will the violation be active on my record (I
believe in NC the duration is 3 years)? Would there be a way to
further reduce the penalty before/after I move to SC?

I have searched extensively, but mine seems to be a unique situation
where no one moves to the state where the non-resident violation
occured. Unfortunately, SC has limited information on it's DMV
website. I also have never had any moving violations on my NC
license, so nothing would transfer to SC from NC but a big fat zero.

I think these questions are very closely related, so if you find that
one source, youve made my day! Thanks for any help you can provide!

Re: Illegal aliens may avoid care

"Immigrants often have a high rate of infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and often do not have health insurance."

Ryan, the average person reading this would equate "high rate" with something like 80+%, meaning the "majority" of illegal aliens are carriers. That's not the case, is it? Maybe you should run some of these blogs through the "Claims Department" before posting. Or choose your wording better, such as saying "higher rate" instead.

And by the way, this problem goes both ways:

If you want to truly insure that infectious disease aren't introduced and once introduced don't spread...then stop ALL illegal immigration and rapidly deport those illegals that are here now. Illegals have not been vetted and certainly haven't been screened for infectious diseases.

...and hopefully that will be the moment that they are also deported back to the homeland of their origin, until they can follow the rules. - FFC1304

Well, I hope you're prepared to drive them, there, FFC, because I certainly don't want unlicensed, uninsured drivers on the road while I'm out there driving.

It's not about immigration, it's about safety.
