Since Senator Burr just spouts the "say no" Republican mantra, what else can we expect from him? Who out there can look in the mirror and say it ok for a child whose parents cannot afford healthcare to not receive treatment. How sad we have "progressed" as a nation of people who care not for the less fortunate among us. I am sure that many of those who do not care believe that those who are without insurance are in that situation because they lack motivation to work, etc. How wrong they are, but I guess their beliefs are enough to allow them to remain comfortable as long as no one touches "their" healthcare. Look in the mirror and see the face of a suffering child who cannot receive treatment. They are out there by the thousands........

Are any of his statements true?

a) there's nothing in the Senate bill that would prevent Americans from making healthier choices. In fact, the bill would leave more people covered with access to preventative measures, thereby addressing the very criteria Burr claims to be concerned about.

b) there's no public option that "allows patients...to be managed and be run by the federal government." What does that even mean?

c) the public opinion, as you note.

At what point do you begin A) covering each Burr story with the assumption that whatever he's saying is wrong, and B) doing a better job of informing your readers, rather than just reporting what Burr says. Pointing out the poll is a good start, but there's more work to be done when you have a politician lying with impunity.

I would rather see the money go to clean up the end product of all that pork, the euphemistically named "hog lagoon". While the stench makes it obvious that it is polluting the air, it is also an environmental disaster for our precious rivers, streams and groundwater.

I would rather see the money go toward cleaning up the euphemistically named

Indeed I think the classic concept of "the rich get richer, the poor get poorer" here.

I personally do not see why the taxpayer should have to foot the bill for this either, and whether or not this helps prevent the reoccuranced of the swine flu epidemic remains to be seen.

If they had the sense of a brass horn Billy Goat. they would not need money to buy pork for the disadvantaged. they are sitting in the seat of authority. all they have to do is change global trade to a point where we can not buy any more of other countries products, than they buy from us.
that way we americans can invest in factories, and hire americans, and then we won't need to help so many.under this situation today where capitolism has ignored every thing but profits. they are forcing this country into communism, or socialism,at that point. capitolism will cease to exist. I can't understand why someone else does not realize that.

What help did those congressmen offer citizens who had industrial pig factory farms move into their neighborhoods destroying their quality of life. Forcing people to breathe the toxic gases, have manure sprayed in the air to mist all over them, etc.

Who forced the hog industry to oversaturate the market, to oversaturate southeastern NC???

Where were those congressmen then? Stuffing their pockets with campaign donations from the industry?

The taxpayers now have to foot the bill for a greedy industry.

The reason Democrats got in two years ago was because the country was already beginning to show symptoms of the downturn and disarray regarding the Iraq War. It is saddening to hear the political rhetoric being tossed around when this country is in such sad shape. This is not State and Carolina folks. It should not be your team, my team loyalty to the end. Let's just try to support good leadership and hard working legislators.
