Legislative women go back one step NO NO NO

Your numbers are correct, but misleading. The number of women ELECTED to the NC House went UP from 34 in 2006 to 38 in 2008. The reason 38 served in the 2007 session was that four women (Bryant, Cotham, Hughes, Mobley) were appointed during the term to fill vacancies held by men, who vacated the seats due to death, appointment to the Senate, resignation, and expulsion. In the Senate, eight were elected in 2006, and six in 2008. One of the eight (Lucas) died in office, dropping the number to 7.
In fact the number of women elected in 2008 was 44, up from 42 in 2006.

CONGRATULATIONS TO REPRESENTATIVE FLOYD! Filling the shoes of her office's predecessor, the distinguished (and charming) Rep. Debbie Clary, will not be easy, but District 110 has shown again that it is a leader in North Carolina politics. Yes, a few shining sparkles have come out of the 2008 election.

Frances Cummings from Robeson County served in 1995-1996 - she was elected as a Democrat and switched parties.

Pearl Burris Floyd was elected the first black Republican woman to North Carolina's first state legislature.

That would have been around 1662?

RTB what is with the detailed mentioning of the Senate races but a simple summation of the House races? I am not crying unfairness but it just seems a bit odd to place more emphasis on one chamber.

Am I counting wrong? Looks like there's only nine.

If Jim Blaine wants his candidates to run our state budget, let's hope they can count to up to ten...

I read that Pilot story three times and I'm still not sure what it said.

Bottomline, this bunch needs to stay out of steakhouses.
