This looks like a very promising initiative to make high school education more connected to the real world. Not every student is going on to a liberal arts education in college. This program links those who want or need to work and also make more than a survival wage. What's more, the jobs that grow from this enterprise will lead to a career. And a well pre-pared workforce is good for everybody.

You've got the wrong tag in there, lbonner. It says "Lt. Governor '10" but it should be "Lt. Governor '12". Walter gets a whole 4 years in office!

Career politicians breed corruption and lies. Vote them out or they and their cronies either die in or retire from public office.

I am less concerned at this stage with specific bills or issues she put forward. If it's going to be a Year of the single men, it must be tempting to escape the restless world of the General Assembly. Maybe this will open the doors for the Libertarians.

It is time that the North Carolina State took care of its own people. Starting with Mental Health Care services being restore. Rutherford County,NC has been hit hard. We need Heath care and JoBs.

The Democrats are looking to the long term.

Once illegal immigrants are granted immunity, they will register as Democrats. The Democrats will say, "We took care of you when those right wingers called you 'illegals.' We were the ones who got you into college."

It's a smart move on the part of the Democrats. They are building a voting block which will dominate both state and national politics within a few decades. The 'once illegal' vote will become the most important voting block our nation has ever seen.

The Democrats are smart. That's why they stay in power.

Our governor does not seem to care for North Carolina as does her Lt. Gov who voted to keep illegals out of the community college system. She could have been more forceful is telling the board her feelings. To please - Janet Cowell, get the Feds to do their job and send the illegals back from whence they come and we won't have an uneducated public. North Carolina was once listed as the easiest state for illegals to get driver licenses, now we will be number 1 in educating them. Why don't we add the word Illegals to the bottom of the Welcome to North Carolina signs at our states borders. Here's hoping the General Assembly will do the Governors wishes when they bring up the matter in session. This noise about paying out of state tuition is blowing smoke. We all know they pool their resources to attain a goal. Thats like building a wall to keep ants out - a waste. Whats needed is protection for residents of North Carolina now and in the future.

Lt Gov. Dalton said it better than anyone could. Let us worry about our citizens. Law breaker's your on your own.

Dalton had no dog in this fight, and notice that Sugar Dumplin watched from behind the curtain without sayin a word...she supported the hell outta this for sure...

These NCCCS advisors need to be arrested for aiding and abetting ILLEGALs in our midst. Stuart Fountain should be locked up before midnight tonight!
Take Sullins, Rawls too! These people are CRIMINALS in NC, and they should be concerned for their individual safety on the street.

Government officials take little notice of what the public wants these days. So how can an 'illegal immigrant' get a job after going to tax-payer funded community college? If they don't have the legal documents to be here they can't get a job so why go to community college? Why give them incentive to stay here illegally? Illogical.
