Re: Moore: Pension fund down, but solid? Oh?

If anyone can find out what the year-end value of the pension fund is, that would be an interesting piece of news. Things have changed a lot since September. Even by the end of September, however, the fund had lost its status as completely funded for future claims, a status that it achieved over many years of careful management by Moore's predecessor, Harlan Boyles.

If Mary Easely had any sense of decency she would NOT have taken such advantage of the NC taxpayers by demanding and receiving an 80%+ PAY RAISE for a JOB that NO ONE ELSE was given a chance at...

HOW does she sleep at night?

It doesn't matter whether Republican or Democrat...if you already have that much money in the bag that Hayes does, and Dole too, you should decline the pension. That would be the "conservative" position. And if people want to point out rich Democrats who are leaving and get pensions, that's fine...I don't think there should be a law, it should just be the right thing to do.

If Sen. Dole and Rep. Hayes have any sense of decency, they will not accept this money. Alas, if they had any sense of decency, they would not have blindly, continually, and whole heartedly supported a political party that has driven our country into such a deep ditch. Enjoy our $30,000(plus) a year, honorable millionaires.

I have admired Richard Moore and agree that he is smarter and understands the economy and most other things better than many of our "leaders." But this little boasting joke apparently made in his incessant quest for national media attention isn't even a little funny to me.

Questions for the Treasurer:
Shall we get ready to add the capital H to hubris?
Are you familiar with the frequent payoff to those who display it, especially in such a gloating fashion?
"I'll loan them the money" - oh really, will you? All by yourself? Do you remember whose money that actually is?

ConMax, let me know next time you have a kid. When it happens, I'll make sure to invest in Reynolds Wrap...something tells me that tin foil sales will be going up.

The deficit, as measured by % of GDP, is nowhere near record levels. Chill.

Fed can borrow from us, Moore says

Paper Currency BS! Moore should be moving all of the state funds into Bullion Gold and Silver and stashing it with the State National Guard under a Secure unused Bank Vault with orders to shoot the first government idiot that even comes close to it. The last place one wants to do is invest in failed government that is totaly out control......Mr Moore, take your Tin Foil Fabin school of economics and shove it up Lord Mayard Keynes worthless toilet paper rear.......

I also wish we had him in the US Senate right now. Richard has more knowledge about the nation's financial situation in his little finger than Liddy Dole and Dick Burr have in both their brains.

I know someone was taping the event, so I wish I could have the video, but Treasurer Moore gave a great extemporaneous speech on Tues night about the current economic crisis at the Campbell Law Professionalism Dinner in Raleigh. He not only methodically explained how the crisis occurred, but managed to pinpoint the individual events which led to it, and how he ensured NC would not be in the same boat.

He also advised the audience, comprised of judges, lawyers, professors, and students, about what they could do in their own financial lives to ensure their success/survival (Basic, but good advice: 1) Keep good credit and 2) Diversify).

I voted for Bev Perdue in the primary, and I know she'll make a great governor, but Mr. Moore showed he is the right man in the right job at the right time for North Carolina. I hope he continues to share his thoughts with all North Carolinians about the current financial crisis.

Re: SEANC ad pushes pension bill

In a down turned economy it is to be expected with large pension funds such as ours. Before SEANC rings the bells of knee-jerk reaction they should compare it to other pension funds and get a grasp of the financial markets. This does not include their amateur day trading either.

The fact remains, the North Carolina pension fund is one of the best performing pension funds in the country. What more can you ask for.

SEANC seeks accountability with its proposal. State employees pay into the retirement fund and only wish to protect it. A $4 billion dollars loss is unacceptable.

So in other words, people who have no idea how to invest billions of dollars.

That's exactly who I want to serve on the board. SEANC is a joke.

For now, the bill calls for a board of appointees named by the governor and the heads of both chambers. They would represent different groups the pension covers, including teachers and state workers.

Who would serve on this oversight board? Would they at least be financial analysts, or would they just be government appointees?

SEANC needs to follow the old axiom: If it ain't broke don't fix it.
