Hold on...MTV supported George W. Bush? No, that's probably one of the most incorrect statements I've ever heard in my life.

That's a video of Michael Davidson, a College Republican activist protesting against MTV and their employees. Its amusing-

I love how ruffled you Edwards-ites have gotten over this little spat. I bet you're probably from Chapel Hill and hate the fact that someone dare shed negative light on your utopia.

MTV is owned by a corporate interest that heavily supported George W. Bush's candidacy. It's pathetic, I never watch the network any more.

A bimbo who is pursuing her masters in journalism, at a public, a state university decides to attempt to slime the only candidate actually talking about poverty, jobs and the economy, one who has an established record on working to take on poverty, one who started a organization devoted to the subject at the university she attends, because his campaign headquarters is located in Chapel Hill, NC, because, and I quote her here "Chapel Hill is not for everybody". Is that Carla Babb's opinion? If so, what is it based on?

Do only rich students attend UNC Chapel Hill? Perhaps she supports another candidate and saw an opportunty and went for it? Or is this something she hopes will open doors for herself as a [cough] "journalist" I'm sure FOX news and other right wing networks will consider hiring her to provide lip service to whatever the right wing corporate trolls pay for. There was not one example of journalistic ethics and standards displayed by this moron. The entire university should be ashamed at this promotion of low standards. Perhaps that is what advisor C.A. Tuttle advises to his journalism students, the benefits of tabloid reporting? I can only assume he is part of the problem, the reason why the majority of Americans no longer trust the media.. it's because of twits like Carla Babb, who lack the integrity and commitment to journalism in the public interest.

Surely you understand the word "source." Towns, a journalism professor, says that a candidate for president was a source in this story. Whether the campaign is amateur hour or not, that is simply not true.

Yes this is a story, a story that has apparently been fueled by a partisan faculty member.

Leroy Towns' career spans more than three decades as a political correspondent, press secretary and chief of staff for U.S. Senator Pat Roberts of Kansas. During his years with Sen. Roberts, Leroy served as Sen. Roberts chief advisor on political and legislative issues, managed eight successful U.S. Congressional campaigns and one successful U.S. Senate campaign, and served as the Senator’s designated staff on the Senate Select Committee on Ethics.

check out his biography and then cross reference the FEC site. then consider the "not much info with accusation" hit-style journalism and I think it paints a bit of a picture...

just my 2 cents...

What a pathetic piece, even for a student. There is not a single mention of where Edwards stands on the issues that really matter: Ending the war in Iraq, Creating Universal HealthCare, Alleviating Poverty, Ending Global Warming, etc.

Perhaps this student can get her first job at the National Enquirer or as an assistant to Ann Coulter.

I am surprised by Professor Tuggle's reaction. To me the disturbing part of this incident is that the student misrepresented herself as an objective reporter, when in reality she is a registered Republican who went in with a negative agenda. Real journalism is about objective reporting. Too many of our "real" reporters are forgetting that. It is a shame that the focus of this was turned on the Edward's staffers who responded, (appropriately in my opinion), with an effort to remove an obvious hit piece.

The story itself is foolish, but the Edwards staffers understand that even the most flimsy negative story can be picked up and then "quoted as a published source" by right wing detractors.

If you are reading about this non-story, but have heard nothing about Edward's efforts to bring attention and support to victims of the California fires, or about Edward's position statement on corporate responsibility, then I think a lot of jouurnalists need a refresher course on good reporting.

Compared to the other impoverished areas of Chapel Hill?

Plus, go find the HUGE space they are renting that a national campaign requires in Chapel Hill.

Or, perhaps compared to the low, low prices of D.C. where Obama and Clinton are based?

This is Republican b.s. by a registered Republican "reporter" who wants her 15 minutes.

plus no one really cares about your neighborhood's "villageness", that wasn't the point of the story. The point was more that Edward's preaches a doctrine of spreading the wealth yet he has his campaign headquarters in an extraordinarily affluent part of Chapel Hill.

minds aren't split at all. I wonder why this registered republican didn't bother to mention the following:
1. Because of its "village"ness, most of the Edwards campaign staff live within walking or biking distance of the headquarters.
2. Because of its "affluent" villageness, most of the Edwards campaign staff can walk to lunch or to get a cup of coffee, or for dinner afterwards.
3. Because of its "too green" grass, the Edwards campaign staff can sit on that grass and watch movies and listen to music on the weekends, without driving.
4. Because of its "village" setting, the Edwards campaign staff can go out for a drink after work and WALK home instead of driving.
5. Because it is a village, complete with bookstore, grocery store, gym, dry cleaners, bank, movie theater, and many other shops, the Edwards campaign staff can take care of their daily business without hoping in their car and driving all over town.

It might be nice if the Republican interviewer had mentioned these facts, but then again we know Republicans don't believe in global warming, so the positives of a walkable neighborhood probably escaped her notice.

Quote:
------------
There is NO evidence that a candidate for president had anything to do with this story whatsoever. None.
------------

His campaign staffers overreacted to what should be a complete non-story. Their threats merit the additional coverage it will now surely receive. As they are paid representatives of the Edwards campaign, it's immaterial whether the "candidate for president", John Edwards, had anything to do with their actions. Whether it's John Edwards or John Edwards' staffers, it's most certainly a story now. And yet another example of how the Edwards campaign is amateur hour.
