Anyone notice the photo in the background? I am fairly certain that is the photo of UNC Tar Heel Michael Jordan hitting the game winning shot in the 1982 NCAA Championship.

All you have to do is google Leroy Towns to discern the credibility of that statement. A dyed-in-the-wool partisan like Towns is never going to give the opposition candidate any credit.

Amen to Mr. Towns. Hagan hardly ran any positive commercials and was simply bankrolled by Chucky Schumer's millions running down Elizabeth Dole. Dole didn't do herself many favors but Schumer and The DSC deserve the credit, not Kay Hagan.

Look in rear view mirror for Bev's future

Egotistically on the campaign trail Saturday, Perdue said, tell a friend that "I saw her.... I saw the future of North Carolina." She was exactly right.

We know exactly what we would get with Beverly as Governor as we have seen her behaviors for 8+ years:

- More of Mike & Mary Easley and secretive democratic control
- No transparency in government
- Limited exposure (like with her debates, she will pick her time to be public)
- Continued use of DOT as a political lever (complete with money from board members)
- Same old education & mental health problems
- Control by the unions
- Pitting regions of the state against one another for political gain

As importantly, a lack of trust in our public officials (Remember Mavretic's words, you cannot trust her)

North Carolina deserves better than Perdue.

Re: Towns' predictions for N.C.

No matter what happens on Tuesday, I hope that people will come together, instead of being torn apart. We have to shed the divisiveness caused by racial, gender, and socio-economic warfare.

We must embrace our differences as a nation and realize that we are much the same in spite of the differences. We all have goals and aspirations and these ideals don't have to come at someone else's expense. We cannot move forward as a people if we don't learn to accept that we have to work together on the problems we face as a nation.

We will still be facing the same issues on Wednesday that we face today. Keep that in mind if things don't break the way you wanted them to. You still have a responsibility to be vigilant and be involved in our government's affairs.

http://thehickoryhound.blogspot.com/

Let's Add this up - $1.979 trillion in bailouts and counting

How can you possibly forget the name?

BlueCross/BlueShield of NC spent millions of dollars marketing the "BlueNC" brand before James took advantage of his relationship with them to snag the website after BCBS was finished with it and capitalize on their existing web traffic and history in a for-profit venture for himself.

The least you can do is get the name right. I mean, otherwise, BCBS would have wasted all those advertising dollars!

Sorry. BlueNC. Good catch. Don't want people to think it's some other group that comes up with stupid nicknames and calls it progressive activism.

Ryan, how could you miss the importance of Protzman's making up stupid nicknames for politicians?

You don't think the schoolyard sophistication of the nicknames Protzman proudly posted demonstrate NCBlue's credibility as a resource for reasoned political comment?

I think you weren't asleep at the switch so much as trying to do NCBlue a favor, despite itself. You must be really biased.

Pat attention, Ryan. Just because the Hagan and Perdue campaigns haven't come up with nicknames, doesn't mean they don't exist:

For McCrory:

Myers Park Pat
Pat "Duke" McCrory
The Pacman
Pac McTory

For Dole:

Biddy Dull
Watergate Liz

Re: Towns: When is a poll pushing?

Not a good poll, but not a sleazy "push poll." Read the JOMC blog linked above (or google "push poll"). These are all legitimate questions for the campaign to determine whether their free book campaign was successful and what the views are of their supporters (and non-supporters) with regard to controversial questions.

Here are some poll questions from Fred Smith

Here are the questions from a Fred Smith poll I got a few weeks back. I wrote them down as quick as I could. Not sure if this is a push poll, but I didn't think it was too scientific to have the questions end with "do you intend to vote for Fred Smith for Governor". For the record, I said I was voting for Smith, although I am currently undecided.

Do you vote in North Carolina?

Do you intend to vote in Republican primary for governor in 2008?

If your choices for Governor are Fred Smith, Bob Orr, Pat McCrory and Bill Graham, do you intend to vote for Fred Smith for Governor?

Now, if your choice for governor was only between 2 candidates, Fred Smith and Pat McCrory, would you vote for Fred Smith?

Recently, Fred Smith mailed you a free book entitled a little extra effort, did you receive your free copy of the book?

Have you had an opportunity to read it?

Would you like a copy of it?

Are you Pro Life?

Do you believe marriage is between one man and one woman?

Do you support your taxes not being raised and possibly cut?

Do you believe that illegal immigration a problem?

Do you support the 2nd Amendment and the right to bear arms?

Then it asked a bunch of questions about age, sex, and things like that.
