MSNBC reported last night that Republican leaders have "allowed" their members to vote with Democrats until the election if it will help get them reelected.

I think that would be an important tidbit to include in a story like this? It makes it clear that dole is CYA, not doing what she thinks is right, what she thinks is right is straight-party votes.

Re: SEANC mulling federal endorsements

reluctant, shied, whether, endorsing, it's, for, :
You must be a union member since you said the membership needs to make it's feelings known. I do not think a rubber stamp for democratic candidates will get anything for you. It hasn't helped the teachers in this state. In a state budget exploding 45% bigger since 2002, and has more than doubled over the last 10 years, there is NO MORE MONEY!

SEANC should have been endorsing candidates for any office for years. They have been reluctent to be envolved in State wide races and have shide away from primary races as in the recent Democratic primary for Governor. As to weather SEANC should be indorsing in Congressional races or even Presidental races I don't have a problem with it. The membership needs to make its feelings known. I for one am fore it.

Re: Price defends earmarks in Cary

Agreed with your comment mwilbert and would go further that Price's comment demonstrates his fiscal laziness. In corporate America, during lean times or during times when better financial performance is requested from shareholders, the mandate from management soon becomes "buckle up" and "everything is under review". In terms of earmarks, Price should focus NOT on this being 1 percent of the budget (with 1 percent of budget still being a HUGE dollar amount) but on the message that taxpayers are saying (we should be viewed as shareholders and "owners") that we want better financial performance and more effective government. Bottom line, how about shaving 5% from every government program and demand less waste and more productivity. If average Americans are being asked to produce this kind of value, then we should expect nothing less from our government. Mr. Price, how about some leadership and more bigger picture thinking?

Did he really include Social Security in his list of "spending problems"? Didn't he read the trustees' report yesterday? Social Security is solvent. The trust fund has enough money to pay full benefits until 2041, according to current projections. And there's ample reason to believe that those projections are overly pessimistic. The actuarial balance has been improving, and is now better than it’s been since 1993.

Certainly Dr. Price is too smart to have made such a mistake. Or has he really been duped by the right wing's scare tactics on this issue?

Price arrogantly says, "....the money would be appropriated anyway." That's because he knows he is in a position to ensure that our money is there for him and his cronies to spend.

And it will be spent without an individual vote on the merits of the project; bundled with thousands of other "worthy" projects costing us hundreds of millions of our hard-earned dollars.

The "everybody's doing it" defense only works on the schoolyard Rep. Price. You should be ashamed of your arrogance.

Orr is the only Republican candidate actually speaking about issues of concern here in North Carolina. Why aren't more Republicans supporting him? I Republicans are ready to see another Mayor from Charlotte lose or a millionaire blow a couple million on his own money on a failed election.

He's the one who keeps painting using the wrong brush! By the way I didn't see Jones voting with the Republicans on Conyers contempt charges against Meirs and Bolton. He voted "Yea!" with Pelosi and Conyers, check the voting record. While you are ar it check his voting record for the past two years this is a real RINO!

I fail to see many Democrats who vote pro-life, standing up for Christian values, and fighting as hard as Tom Tancredo to secure the border. It may be fair to say his fiscal voting record isn't perfect but to paint him with the same brush as Conyers and Pelosi is downright silly.

Norquist was right on target yesterday about Walters Jones lean to the left fiscally. Walters Re-pork Card last year shows a continious slide left over the past 3-4 years. The numbers for 07 are not out yet, but you can bet he'll be even worse than before. It's just not the Iraq War for the folks in the 3rd Dist it's a "Lefty Screwball" voting record that ignores the the people that got him in office. He's lined himself up so well with Pelosi et al, that he might as well switch parties now rather than later. It was sure nice to hear a real Wahington Conservative/Republican standing up for McLaughlin. Who is Jones political advisor these days, John Conyers?

Wouldn't it stink to have Glen Downs' job? You work for a Republican who votes like a Democrat and your job is to try to make him sound like a conservative. Wonder how that reads on a resume?
How can he keep a straight face (no pun intended) and say "Yeah, Congressman Jones voted to raise taxes twice last year, but they were small tax increase." Even better "Yeah, Congressman Jones voted to raise taxes twice last year, but he also opposed President Bush's budget". Big shocker, he opposes everything the President does!
This isn't as bad as some other ones like "Yes, Congressman Jones said he would vote to impeach President Bush, but he wouldn't file the charges" or "Yes, Congressman Jones used taxpayer money for a phone poll, but it is legal because he called it a constituent survey."
I feel sorry for anyone who is doing the damage control on the political trainwreck that is Walter Jones.

Think tank? Now there's a habit you want to go ahead and break before you start sprouting Puppet strings.

Did anyone ask Jones what's up with god these days? Seems like George Bush has also claimed to be doing god's work as he sets about to destroy the world. Either Walter is wrong about god or George Bush is wrong about god. Which is it?
