As a member of Wright's constituency, I think that he should resign immediately in order for someone who will ACTUALLY focus on the interests of Wilmington and New Hanover County and not on stuffing their own pockets with campaign donations.

Now it's up to Wright, and who knows what he'll do. But at least the leadership of the House has spoken clearly and emphatically on the issue.

Too bad the North Carolina Republican Party doesn't adhere to the same standard of integrity with regard to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, who makes Thomas Wright's transgressions look like child's play.

I was hoping I'd get promoted to 'gadfly.'

It baffles me that people entrusted to represent We the People can hang on with such ferocity to their trappings of power when it's clear they've lost credibility. And yet the only ones who really feel the pressure are small-time transgressors like Wright. In the grand scheme, his "crimes" pale in comparison to what is transpiring in the Bush Administration.

But I don't see a groundswell of North Carolina Republicans calling for the incompetent liars, torturers and war-profiteers in the White House to resign.
