As a taxpayer, I much rather give free tuition to real
students enrolled in the NC School of Science and
Mathematics than the tuition break NC gives the UNC System
athletes and the 1.3 million subsidy the Dean Dome gets
every year.

Support academics and real students by keeping the free
tuition for School of Science and Math grads but get rid
of the fake students on the sports teams.

Why cut this before the NCTLG?

Before they cut this, they should definitely cut the NC Legislative Tuition Grant (NCTLG) which, for no particular reason, pays $1,950 for any NC resident student, regardless of need, to attend a private college or university--even on a part-time basis.

I've got a better idea. Use the free tuition grant funds for the matriculation of illegal aliens in the UNC and Community College system. Kay Hagan will like that.

No, you're right. She wanted to reinstate the estate tax for households with assets of more than $7 million. The reason for the cutoff was to make sure it didn't penalize family farmers.

Clinton really wants to REPEAL the estate tax for people with more than $7 million? That would mean that the estate tax would only apply to those with estates between $2 million (current exemption level) and $7 million. There's no way that's an actual policy proposal that she's bragging about.

Did Chelsea misspeak, or did you write it down wrong?

As an aside, it makes more sense to tie the EITC to average wages rather than inflation. If we follow Clinton's lead, the EITC will still become more regressive over time, as wages generally rise at a faster rate than inflation. Of course, tying to inflation is still better than the status quo.

Actually, the source of the info was me.

I wrote the profile of Perdue that included her kid's birthdates (precisely because this sort of thing comes up in campaigns).

All they did was send me (and Laura) a link to my own profile, which I should have checked when I wrote the post.

You didn't mention, as Laura Leslie did, that the source of the info on the kids was the Moore campaign.

Says Laura: Richard Moore's campaign emailed me to point out that Perdue's sons would have been 16 and 13 in 1993, so it may have been difficult for one of them to have been at Carolina at that time. (One hopes they weren't yet in need of beer money, either.)

The candidates are coming to BlueNC for a debate next Monday. I wonder how many people will want to ask why they spend so much time on crap like this.
