Major reforms are needed to protect workers' rights in the poultry industry.

Don't worry, if this legislation is as effective as his highly touted oil speculation bill, the farmers won't benefit at all. The oil speculators aren't worried about Ethridge's meaningless bills. Maybe if Ethridge would push for drilling in America and drive the cost of energy down we could all eat more chicken!

Most of them are feed lot operators, not real farmers. I resent
absentee owners being called farmers.

landshark, the election system is old... nobody's worried that voters will change. Ticket sales go up and down and the usual teams wins every time.

If elections were movies, we could loop one 200 times and the audience would still be screaming. As it is, desired characteristics disqualify potential office holders. Moral and representative fortitude with a brainy and abrasive demeanor may make a good leader, but ever try to work with one of those types? They're impossible!

So the disconnect between what's yearned for - and what acutally happens in elections is a trusted eventuality. People who pay to win elections are looking for "Team" players, not disrupters.

This business is already subsidized through sales tax exemptions of feed, materials used to construct poultry houses, etc. Do we really need to encourage more chicken and pig farms in N.C. What is the plan here, to become the next Arkansas.

Wow, I didn't know the poultry farming business involved no risk of loss. Let's see, how many other businesses can we bail out? Where was the government when all the textile plants closed their doors in NC and laid off thousands of workers. Where was the bailout for them!! This is bull.

All these folks are in the back pockets of big business. Let them find other sources for their chickens! We still eat chicken, it ain't like it's gone out of style or we built to many!

We need to watch who votes for this mess and come the next election vote for someone new!

I might be wrong here, I feel like they put themselves out of business. Their chicken processing is harmful to peoples health, they are producing far more chickens than is needed, etc,... I feel like we just have to many things, stores, coffee shops, to much fast food, etc,... This down turn can be a good thing? If in fact they are producting to much than they should be out of business. If we the people stop living on credit, and buy as you need it, won't that be better? If business only expanded to more locations. If the business came customer demand. And the payroll and rent wasn't paid by lines of credit only? Now that's just me, I might be way off base????

Will Etheridge file legislation to save all the small business owners who are struggling, will he file legislation to prevent peoples homes and cars from being forclosed on and repo'd? Can anyone stand on their own anymore without expecting the government to come to the rescue?

very interesting?

I support children too, even as a smoker.

There's almost no comparison here.

Banning smoking from adult clubs, or regulating my nicotine content under the FDA restricts rights. Mere taxation to provide health care to millions more children doesn't.

In a five-minute speech on the Senate floor, she noted that North Carolina has 12,000 tobacco farmers and over 65,000 jobs tied to the tobacco industry with a $7 billion economic impact on the state.

I WOULD THINK THAT SHE SUPPORTS CANCER.......AND VERY LOW PAYING JOBS FOR ILLEGALS!

Senator Burr spoke for a total of 45 minutes yet could only muster 5 minutes. Seems like she doesn't really oppose this bill.

No, it seems like you don't get the whole time allowance thing and the difference in Senior and Junior Senators.

You thanked Burr for his vote.

Submitted by GrayJ on June 2, 2009 - 9:18pm.

Thank you Senator Burr for looking out for this state and its interests.

Now thank Kay as I have, rather than attacking for no reason.

I have criticized every State Legislator yahoo that hurt tobacco regardless of party affiliation on this site countless times. Man up and thank your Senator Kay Hagan for doing the RIGHT thing for NC regardless of party.

I assure you the liberal left is attacking her for you right now. Take a night off Hack.
