I always thought those UNC Chapel Hill students had a bit of a funk. I'm thinking the greasy hair is supposed to symbolize an academic type who doesn't have time to bathe. Think of the selfishness too. If you don't wash your hands you could cause someone else to get sick.

Considering mass hygiene charges labeled at rival institutions in recent years (Carter-Finley's infamous urination section!) I suppose UNC will accept "wash your hands more often" and smile.

There you go again Gosh. Senator Burr has been a good senator. He has paid attention to his constituent service (unless our other Senator who is following in Edward's footsteps by not responding to her constituents). He is home almost every weekend traveling the state meeting people and speaking at events. I also think it is a really long shot and a huge reach to insinuate that Dr. John Dinan is in Burr's pocket and that he defends him all the time.

I think if Burr keeps clear of any too-personal attacks a-la "there is no god", he's got everything Dole didn't. The public's perception of him is unlike two of our former Senators, Dole and Edwards, he works hard, and cares deeply about the state. He's certainly not weak by any stretch, and although some candidates (Cunningham, for one) could give him a hell of a run, I think Burr ends up back in Washington in 2010.

I hope this 'bullet dodged' meme takes hold in mainstream media, elevating Burr to as "safe" an incumbent as 'political science professors' anointed Dole.

As for the 'likable' differentiation from Dole asserted by Burr's neighbor John Dinan, Monday morning quarterback much?

Dole literally wore a tierra awarded her by the Red Cross as the most adorable mistress a failed Presidential candidate ever had. It's the South and you still can't attack a woman. Dole's staff forgot that when they went after Godless, fibber Kay.

Thus proving it all comes down to staff, not the candidate. Burr's has shown an incredible proclivity to making a bank run on stupidity thus far.

My money's still on the random yellow dog.

On topic, I agree that Burr is the last chance of those that recruited him, namely Rove, Cheney and Bush, to save a dying brand and ideological legacy.

That's if Burr doesn't reinvent himself as a moderate with liberal tendencies along the way, in which doing so he kills the Bush era once and for all better than any Democratic victory ever could.

I'm just not sure the insanity defense to Burr's one-time support of both the bank bailout and CAFTA holds as much water as the average towel in a dark skinned teenager's face does at GITMO.

We'll see how long Burr can hold his breath under pressure from the right.

Here's hoping he follows in Liddy's Dole's illustrious footsteps.

In 2006, she served as the chairwoman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, presiding over the loss of six seats and the majority. Dole has gone from rising star to rank-and-file senator hanging on for dear life.

The comment I will make is to my chagrin, but I want to correct the record. Fred Smith, the GOP gubernatorial candiate I supported, was not a GOP gubernatorial nominee. Pat McCrory was the GOP gubernatorial nominee in 2008 and Smith finished second to him in the GOP gubernatorial primary that year.

The fact that Obama will be replacing a Eastern NC federal prosecuting attorney who was appointed by Bush. The fact is not lost on me that Mr Holding has put numerous Democrats in jail that the Democrats (Cooper) have not. And current Democrats are under investigation and will be as this Easley corruption scandal unfolds.
