It would have nice if they had instituted drug and alcohol testing for members of the governor's staff, the BOE, DMV, etc,etc and the GA.

There are a lot of fat folks sitting in both halls of the GA...does any of this apply to them?

I haven't seen a state policy so schizophrenic since the Taliban said heroin is only for Christians.

Anyone read online bullying? Very obtuse.

Explicity states one can not "Access" a computer with intent to torment a minor's parent or guardian. I guess those without kids don't get the same consideration.

Also implicity states it's against the law to pose as a minor...
Who writes these things? The law goes into effect Dec 31st.

Since I'm a 14 year old girl, I will report all comments that "Plant any statement, whether True or False,... that provoke a third party... to harass a minor."

Is this the worst-written law ever, or are they all like this?

I think the Governor and her entourage will be ecstatic about signing this bill. What Democrat would not relish signing a budget that raised taxes during a recession. I would think that would be the height of achievement in Democratic circles. Kicking the North Carolina family while it is down is an art form. There's plenty of meat left on the working family bones if you know where to look.

Take pride in your work. Not many have the guts to raise taxes during a recession, especially a sales tax that will hit everyone.

And that talk about cuts was a real "slight of hand." A real magic show.

Let's party! We've raised taxes again and left the whole state numb and dumb................ and ready to vote us back into office. "Where you stayin' next term?"

Look for a Republican sweep in 2010 and 2012. NC folks are damn sick and tired of slave driving democrackkks ruining our once great state.

We keep getting told there is a 4.8% cut to the public schools budget. The budget cuts $780 million from public education. By my math if that is a 4.8% cut to education that would mean state spending on education last year was $16 billion. Since the state has repeatedly said that public education is 38% of the state budget....that would mean the state budget last year was $42 billion. The state budget last year was $24 billion. So where do the numbers come from? Spin doctors?

No photo-op is necessary to assign blame for Bev's $1 billion tax grab.

Middle class voters will remember Bev's role in increasing taxes when they pay their state income taxes. Only a handful of state residents will fail to notice the loss of another 2% of their disposable income.

Working class voters will remember Bev's role in increasing sales taxes every time they visit the grocery store. Frustrated parents are unlikely to overlook their newfound inability to purchase bread or milk as 8% of their income is siphoned away by the state.

The unemployed will remember that just after the axe fell on their livelihood, Bev raised taxes to forestall any chance of a near-term recovery.

The Democratic Party will remember Bev's role in driving the electorate into the hands of the GOP.

Okay, I must be having a bad "comprehension" day or something.

The hookah bar lobby :) opposed this (amended) bill because it would put too many restrictions on them. But without an exemption, there won't be any hookah smoking at all after January, right?

While I support the new statewide ban on smoking in bars and restaurants, it seems unfair to not exempt hookah bars when the high scale cigar bars can stay in business. I don't smoke and have never been in a hookah bar, but I understand that nobody would go into one unless they were there for the express purpose to smoke what ever they smoke--it's not pot, by the way.
