Boy, are we surprised to find that the "Rino" Walter Jones of the 3rd Dist is last in the pack and only little better than his Democrat friends. Could that be just because of his anti-war bent or is there more to this? Could Water switch to Democrat after November? Wait for the next exciting episode in As The Congressman Turns.

Mr. Hawke is a good man, and a brilliant strategist. However, I believe he unintentionally misspoke. I have been working with the media for many years, as my resume will attest.

as reported here
Hopefully the Senator ranked 93rd and the Congresswoman ranked 399th will be as effective at raising money for their respective campaigns as they have been as legislators. It's too bad we can't come up with a template or standardized test for members of Congress. We could call it, No Legislator Left Behind, maybe then both Dole and Foxx's scores would improve?
It is so time for a change. Roy Carter for Congress! NC-05

Re: Edmunds stresses Republican ties

The Chairman of the NC Democrat Party put out a hit list by e-mail recently on Judges with every "conservative" Judge as a target. Ever since the Judges Races went "non-partisan" because the Democrats were losing judgeships there has been a targeting. Judge Edmunds is right the Democrats would love to take this state back to the good old days of one Party Democrat rule. We don't need liberal activist judges there are enough Liberals in the House, Senate and Council of State.

It must be really hard keeping yourself balanced and objective when the world of political partisanship is swirling all around you.

Oh wait. Isn't that what judges are supposed to do?

Instead of taking a stand against partisan influences, Edmunds is just piling on with this misguided appeal. I sure as heck wouldn't want such a weak-kneed justice ruling on anything of importance.

This guy needs a new line of work.

The Judge doesn't usually step down from the bench for photo ops with either witnesses or defendants. Foxx's behavior and belittling of the proceedings explains why there are still meth labs in Watauga County and why the war on drugs is really a hypocritical war on minorities.

The hearings should never have been held in congress. Baseball has a special privilege, but congress could change that without this showmanship. Baseball, the greatest of sports, has let itself be drug into the dirt by the steroid mess.

I agree with the reasoning behind this candidate's remark. I, too, believe that illegal drug use of any kind has absolutely no place in sports. However, it is important to remember that there has been no proof of drug use, illegal or otherwise, in this case. There have been serious allegations by an admitted drug pusher who was trying to come up with something (anything?) to keep himself out of jail. Unlike Candidate Carter, I will defend Mr. Clemens, who is, under our constitution, innocent until proven guilty. I think it is wrong to disparage another person's character simply in the pursuit of a political office. I guess that puts me in the minority these days. To possibly open another thread of communication, does anyone have any idea at all why the Congressional "hearing" took on the overtones of a political debate, splitting down party lines, with more accusations than thoughtful questions?

Re: More heat on Foxx over Clemens

We have all done things we are not proud of.

This whole steroids issue reminds me of my college years. I went to college in the 70's. Yes, I smoked marijuana. Just as the majority of the college students of the time did. However, you'll have a hard time finding anybody from that era publicly admitting to it today. Bill Clinton didn't inhale, RIGHT?

Now the steroids. If you played baseball in the late 80's and 90's you either did 'em or knew somebody that did. That's a fact. Nobody will publicly admit it for fear of public outcry and loss of reputation.

I'm calling this phenomenon the "Marry Jane" syndrome.

What was Bud Selig smoking while all this was going on?
