"* I got the willies walking down the aisle with Hilary. But I delivered my one line "Her mother and I" and got seated without incident."

This is harder than one might think! My dad got tangled up in my veil at my wedding and nearly ripped my head off.

congratulations to all!

Done? You must mean for the night...Blogs, and fatherhood, don't stop they take on a life of their own.

There's a bit of uncle Richard's "go south for college" in your words here. (Uncle Richard suggested that Dan go south for college which led to Katherine and Hilary and George). Your gift to capture the stuff of everyday life, the machinery of our destinies, is remarkable. I have enjoyed the stories, like you and George going to get tuxes with absolutely no idea where you were actually going, and they all came into context with uncle Richard and your recognition that this story is not yours at all.

Your wonderful sister, the one who paved the way for you to be...well, wayward as a teenager, suggested "Father of the Son-in-Law" as the logical extension to Father of the Bride. I liked it immediately.

One last thing. The party was not good, it was great. A fantastic finale and beginning.

Looking forward to reading the next chapter whatever you call it!
Re: Two weeks

Hey Dan I hope you enjoy the experience as much as I did. I have written an article on writting the Father of the Bride speech from my experience with my oldest daughter last year.

We would also love to have your speech for our book that will publish actual Fathers of the Bride speeches. We are donating $1.00 per book to to Diabetes and all Fathers who contribute receive a copy free. Go to www.wordsinspiredbylife.com

Here is the article...enjoy!

Giving a great Father of the Bride Speech and presenting a wonderful toast may very well be one
of the most difficult things you ever do.

For some fathers, this speech can be a nerve-wracking event and can even get emotional at times.
Of all the wedding speeches given, this one is usually the most touching and sentimental as it is
one of the anticipated moments of a wedding day.

However, it does not have to be long!

Your speech, as any other wedding speeches, requires planning and preparation. It should be centred on creating an atmosphere of hospitality as it will set the tone for the reception, and lead into many of the other speeches that will be given as things move further forward.

When writing the Father of the Bride speech there are a few things that you should keep in mind:

• Use your life experience and the joy of marriage to guide you.

• Often times the your speech will include stories about how the bride and groom met, as well as when the bride's parents first met the groom.

• As well as having some humour, Father of the Bride speeches need to be welcoming, sincere, kind and thoughtful. Just make sure that if you are going to add any humor to your speech that you do not get out of control.

• Remember to include the details of the wedding when making your speech. The best speeches express the delight and joy of a father to his daughter.

• In making your speech, you can mention your first impression about the young man that took care of your daughter.

• Remember, your speech is the signal that you have gained a son. Therefore writing the perfect speech is important in expressing the father's blessing over his daughter's marriage.

Finally, although your Father of the Bride speech is your moment to be part of her wedding, the speech is ultimately for your daughter.

Best of Luck!
